How do you get rid of cystic pimples!? I keep getting them :-\ And please don't say go to the doctor or get prescription meds. That is my last resort.

The best thing for mine was starting birth control. It didn't fully clear it but it helped a lot.

Mario badescu has something called buffering lotion. it specifically targets cystic pimples. find it at ulta for about $15-$20.

Hi Jenna, look into products that contain benzoyl peroxide such as Oxy 10. This product has done wonders for me. The only con about using benzoyl peroxide is that it may make your skin extreamly dry, but that's nothing a good moisturizer can't take care of. Also, use a face wash that gentle to your skin like Cetaphil gentle face wash. My skin care routine consist of these 2 products I have mentioned. I literally haven't had any problems with breakouts.

I have also had great luck with hormonal birth control, but obviously that requires a doctor visit and you have to weigh the risks vs benefits just like any medication.
Aside from that I agree with Rachel: a very gentle cleanser, benzoyl peroxide (in a 2.5 or 5% preparation to reduce irritation), and a gentle moisturizer like Cetaphil or CeraVe. Hope this is helpful. Good luck!

Waaay more exfoliation. Chemical or manual so you don't have that buildup of skin over your zits. (Scrub or alpha hydroxy acids or both) Since getting a clarisonic a few years ago I've only had like one or two. I always use an aha cleaner. I used to have two or three at any time.

I do exfoliate a lot and I actually do use that Oxy stuff as my cleanser! And my moisturizer is Cetaphil :-) I have been looking into clarisonics though! Would it help? Thanks ladies!

Personal I have horrible acne and nothing made it better at all! Then I started/still am going to the dermatologist and it's getting a lot better! But I have tried the clarisonic and tbh it didn't help much but that might just be me!

I use Cetaphil cleaner and moisturizer along with Epiduo. Together, they've worked wonders. My dermatologist told me a valuable piece of information: if it doesn't work in the first month, don't stop. My regimen took about 2 months to show any significant results. Also, some treatments make your acne worse before it gets better.

Other than product-wise, "clean" but actually dirty pillowcases and putting the phone right on the skin while talking both are two sneaky acne culprits.

My acne isn't horrible so I feel it is a bit extreme to go to the dermatologist. I usually just have 1 or 2 small regular pimples. But right now I have 3 cystic pimples that won't go away. I just want them gone. Ughhh.

When I get them they are usually on my chin and I just don't touch them, mess with them, put any treatment on them or anything and I find that is the best thing to do for me. Maybe if you just let them run their course they will eventually heal and go away. It may take a while but they won't be there forever. I just cover mine up the best I can and try not to stress about them (:

Heather is SPOT on. Your pillowcase should be changed repeatedly and be 100 % cotton so it can breathe. Percale blends contain polyester, which can cause some perspiration as it is essentially knit plastic pressed up on your face all night. Touching one's face with the phone...your palms, etc. is a huge trigger (for me , at least) with regard to cystic issues. I put a sock on my house phone and use speaker on my cell..lol Ingrown or infected facial (or body) hairs may also be at play. The condition is known as folliculitis and can be treated with antibiotics (given at a high dose initially, then reduced and gradually stopped). It is brought on by a natural bacteria within the body and so you can be doing ALL you can externally and still suffer from them. The antibiotic destroys the bacteria and over time, the body will usually stop creating it and take over, which is when you can say bye bye to pills). It's not uncommon to be used in conjunction with Retinol products. There is a natural vitamin supplement that my derm says has had a high success rate for cystic acne, which is called Nicotinamide. You shouldn't need a prescription for that and is is completely natural. I'd also invest in an excellent astringent following your face wash, such as Mario Badescu's Seaweed astringent. Also, I'd stick with cosmetics, moisturizers and sunscreens that are non comedogenic and will not clog your pores. Lastly, I've found sleeping with my hair in a loose bun avoids any abrasive acne or irritation. For spot treatment, Bare Minerals makes a fantastic heal and conceal (that dries out bumps insanely fast) called "Blemish Therapy". Cystic acne CAN cause scarring if not treated properly so please, proceed with caution. Hope that helps.
