So I tried the headband method of no heat curls. I shouwered, put in some mousse and let my hair dry, then put in a deep condition and wrapped it up the way the majority of youtube videos showed. The next morning I couldnt get my hair out of the headband and ended up cutting and ripping a large chunk out. Its not noticable, just all the ends are significantly worse in the worst areas. So I later tried it with no mousse, no conditioner, damp hair and a thicker headband and got the same result.
My hairtype is thick and a bit dry, I have a dry scalp that never produces oils so I have to deep condition once a week. it is stick straight and doesn't hold a curl without a lot of hairspray to make it stiff and crunchy.
My advice: unless I'm doing it wrong, please let me know if I am, don't try this unless you have fine hair that doesn't tangle easily. It had a nice curl, what I got out. But what required scissors is not worth it. Good luck!

I tried it and some days it looks good and some days it doesn't. A trick to wrapping it around the headband without ripping out hair is to do two headbands, one headband for one half of the hair, the second for the other half of the hair.

Yeah I don't do headband curls because it tangles so bad :/ that's a good idea Olivia!
