Use rollers or section your hair into parts and wrap around a bobby pin and use an extra pin to hold it in place.

Try rollers. and if braids don't work for you, try making sure they're very wet with some curling mousse in them, then braid and sleep. it helps a bit.

Use flexi rods aka bendy roller. There foam like and soft.
