Does hydrogen peroxide really work to whiten teeth? Or is it bad for you? I've heard both :s.

I used to swish a bit of hydrogen peroxide. Until my teeth got super sensitive.

Just sensitive in general. I would whiten at my dentist office too. The peroxide isn't potent enough to make them super sensitive.

It works and it's only bad if you overuse it. Just don't use it more than every other day and you'll be good.

I don't recommend it. Hydrogen peroxide is poisonous, and even if you only swish and spit and rinse after, you are still ingesting it through the membranes in your mouth. Over time, this will lead to health problems.

The safest way to whiten is to see your dentist. Then, using preventative measures such as brushing after meals, drinking through straws, etc. will keep them white. Most DIY solutions are abrasive (baking soda), or acidic (lemon, strawberry) and damage the gums and enamel. Store strips are safe for use once in a while, but can irritate gums and cause tooth sensitivity.

Just get it done professionally and then do upkeep, it is the safest option.
