I think it's ridiculous that people who claim Christianity are offended by this but don't know that an inverted cross actually symbolizes a certain saying whom was hung on a cross as well but they inverted the cross because they didn't think it was worthy to associate them with a cross since Jesus. Also, the Nazis took the swastika from Hindus. It was once upon a time a spiritual symbol, just another example of society and its distortions.

I absolutely agree with Amanda! I mean if you're American and you respect your country, then why on earth would you wear underwear with the American flag on it? If people take offense, let them because frankly they'll take offense for everything they think is not right. Your makeup skills are amazing, continue your work! Honestly, people should be focusing on your artistic skills not what the model is wearing. :)

I don't think anyone here is condoning or advocating approaching people or shouting remarks to people based on their beliefs or clothing....at least I hope they aren't. The topic addresses imagery and the MUA seems to be seeking a better understanding of why it is some people were offended. I appreciate her effort to reach out and gain a better understanding as both a human and an artist. Speaking from my own experiences, none of my atheist friends find crosses offensive. Their take is that it means nothing to them so therefore there is no offense... and certainly haven't viewed it as an intention to do so. They DO give me Hell if I let my roots go though! lol I think intention plays a key role when it comes to upset...and that's situations of any kind. As for those who would say, "You're going to Hell" to someone..that isn't "Christian" to do so and it certainly isn't polite. I doubt that exchange would even take place among educated, respectful adults...regardless of personal beliefs or lack thereof. Keeping quiet and sharing opinions cannot co-exist.

The purpose behind this thread is getting muddled which is a pity. The MUA was trying to relate on some level and hopefully got what she was seeking.
Julia, your work was lovely. Clearly you are not only skilled, but compassionate; I respect that.  :)

Amanda, I don't think sitting in judgment of others' Biblical or historical knowledge is necessary and certainly isn't relative to the topic at hand.

I am not surprised some people on here got offended just by stuff I have seen people say, and in my opinion that is dumb. Someone whose symbol is the upside down cross is not offended by someone with a right side up cross, so why should the person with the right side up one be offended by the upside down one. And same for any other religious symbol. It is stupid and hypocritical. People need to stop judging others on their religions and beliefs. And also, like you said, the upside down crosses seem to be everywhere in the punk, alternative, and metal scene. People need to get over it. Plus, like you said, you were showing your MAKEUP work on the model, you are NOT the stylist. Gosh, this is part of why I hate humanity.

@Amanda W, so do you think that if someone was to wear a swastika out loud and PROUD, that THAT is a perfectly acceptable thing to do?

Jun 24, 2013

Todd S.

And also that that person was to wear a swastika solely in the name of FASHION?

Jun 24, 2013

Brittany A.

Todd, I get what you are saying, but they are also kind of different. Upside down cross just has to do with their religious views and beliefs, a swastika has beliefs behind it but it deals more with humanity and discrimination unlike the cross. An upside down cross does not affect anyone. A swastika, though the symbol itself doesn't, what lies behind tends too.

This is soo dumb its just a picture=\ if you don't like it don't simple as that...

Jun 24, 2013

Brittany A.

Also Todd, it TENDS to be Christians (therefor up right cross wearers) that sport the swastika.
I seriously can't believe that you just tried to compare a swastika to an upside down cross, my brain feels like it has exploded.

I personally find it offensive and disrespectful, being a Christian. I also am all for believing in whatever you want to believe, but I would never take something that you believe and show disrespect towards it. I have friends who are Christians and I also have friends who are atheists. I would never judge an individual because of what they believe thats not my place but I would never buy or wear anything of this sort. Much love to everyone❤

Brittany do research on the swastika first...

Jun 24, 2013

Todd S.

No, it isn't TRUE Christians, Brittany, it is those that use Christianity as HATE, which has nothing to do with true Christianity, but of course, YOU are going to imply that Christians are anti-semetic and that THEY are the ones who wear swastikas, way to go, woman!

How is she an attention whore for the necklace? I don't find it offensive in any way what so ever. People find the smallest things to blow up about.

I am a Christian, but to me it's not offensive like when you say something about an ethnicity. It does bother me, buy that's it. And I agree with Darlene M. If you don't like something, then don't look at it. That's how I am because people in the world aren't going to change just because of your religion. Yes there should be respect, but then again, there are so many people in the world and they won't change there style or fashion for you or anyone. So just learn to accept it. That's how I am. Making a fuss over it won't solve anything.

Jun 24, 2013

Dana M.

No one is making a fuss over anything, it's just a thought provoking debate. I love things like this here!

Anyway, I think that you can wear whatever you want, but you should also learn respect. To christians, that is seen as disrespectful and while I don't think anyone should be rude about it, I don't think it'll help you in the professional world. For example, Aeropostale is now under fire for disrespecting "unattractive" and "fat" people, and now they're losing business and receiving negative attention. Though fat shaming is different than appropriating culture, they're still both disrespectful and sooner or later, it'll catch up with you.

I don't understand all of the "fighting" between people here. The post was made to get opinions not to judge others for there opinions. State your opinion and move on to the next post. Its nothing to argue over. It makes me sad:(
