Special effects is really great: nice lasting power and great variety of colors. punky colors would be my next choice after special effects. if you know a professional who will buy dye for you definitely try Pravana chromasilk vivids! I haven't tried the pravana chromasilk pastels, but they look pretty too. manic panic has nice colors but it doesn't last very long. ion brilliance is terrible, they're inconsistent and hard to work with.
