My first major length chop off was from mid-back top a asymmetrical pixie with a heavy fringe, and I had only ever had fairly long side bangs before then. and I was so happy! As long add you love the style first you'll be happy with it :)
I should add that I kept the photo of the style I ended up getting for about two weeks before I went and got my hair cut. It helps to confirm with yourself that the ambition to drastically change your hair isn't a passing whim :)
And for the record I think the length in your second photo really suits you.

I had hair just a bit shorter than yours and cut it to just above y shoulders, it's been almost three years I think and I regret it most of the time, especially now that formal is coming up and my hair isn't long enough to do anything with, just make sure you really want to do it before you do.

Cut it and buy clip in extensions:) then you can wear it short but when you miss your long hair you can have both:)

Go medium length! I used to have super long hair and I cut it into a bob and I seriously regretted it. If you go medium length for the first cut you'll lessen your hair care load but not feel completely different with short hair.

I agree with shaliah. go medium length because yea you may know how to style your hair but styling hair when it's short is way more difficult. I had long hair like yours and I cut it, I regret till this day. short is annoying. especially during the summer when you want to tie it up and do cute braids. but the short look looks great on you.
