So, lately I have been seeing pictures of women who put on too much foundation, and too much powder; making their face look extremely cakey and unnatural. I encourage people to have their own style, and do what makes them feel right and happy; but I feel like if I don't say something now, they will continue to do that, and it will eventually upset them when they learn the truth. Here are a few basic rules, all women who do makeup should know:
o1. Always apply makeup to a clean, moisturized face. If you have oily, dry, combination, or even GREEN skin; it is important to always apply makeup to a fresh clean canvas. The final result will be better if you do, guaranteed.
o2. Primer is important. It helps your makeup to go on smoother, and last longer. You don't need to go out and spend a fortune on a new, shiny primer. You can always just use a simple BB cream, or even the milk of magnesia trick. (google it, it's great.)
o3. Before you apply foundation, check if it is a water base, oil based, or other. Depending on what type, you should find one that is suitable for YOUR skin type and the finished look you are aiming for. (matte, dewy, shimmer, etc.) Also! What you choose to apply the foundation with will also change the results! (brush, sponge, hands, etc.) Find one that works well with the type of foundation, and your personal needs.
o4. Apply the foundation. You don't need to re-apply to your entire face if you have a few stubborn areas, that is what concealer is for. Use a small amount of foundation, and buff it onto your face using a foundation brush, or a stippling brush. Go light, a little goes a long way.
o5. Finish with a setting powder. Whether it's a loose powder or pressed, always brush with the flow of the hairs on your face. Also, go light. Blending is the key to that natural, flawless look. Tap off extra powder after applying it to the brush, do NOT blow off the access powder. That leads to uneven coverage! (optional: highlighter, blusher and contour)
o6. Finally, when you want to remove the makeup you have applied earlier, whether it is heavy or light; you need to cleanse properly or it could lead to breakouts or worse. I suggest first using an oil cleanser to remove all the stubborn makeup, apply it all over; using circular motions, cleanse your face and simply rinse it off with warm water. Then use a face wash, cream or foam. Lastly, tone, and moisturize. Even add in a face mask once a week, and a scrub once a week.
I hope you find these tips helpful, or useful in some way. Thanks, and feel free to add in some of your own in the comments! :) Looking forward to the feed back!
