I visited the school today because I decided that cosmetology may be the way to go for me and I like it so far. Have any of you attended or are currently enrolled in this school? If so what are your thoughts and experience? I live in Brooklyn, NY so I'll be attending the school in Manhattan on 34th street.

Don't do it! try Aveda, I went to Empire on 34th, they are absurd. If you miss any hours, they give you very little options to make it up. I missed the nail class for like 4 days bc I had pneumonia,I gave a docs note and made up all work I missed and they lost the note so it never went on file and they failed me despite having gotten 90-100s on all assignments I missed. Also you need a school with fewer than 20 ppl per class. My classes always had 30 or more, it didn't leave room for one on one. Plus some of their teachers have serious attitudes and will walk out of classes if if the whole class isn't learning according to their schedule. Visit other schools, I can't speak for all LIBS affiliates but Empire is terrible. good luck and if you wanna know anything else... let me know. Sorry if it sounds so negative but I had a lot of friends leave after a few months to transfer because of how bad it was and I wish someone could have warned me before I started paying them.

Thanks for the heads up! I didn't know I felt about attending that school due to the lack of professionalism. I really feel I can pursue something in cosmetology but I want to make sure I can learn in a positive environment. Did you go to Aveda? How was it? I also was going to try out Empire because they had makeup classes and thats my passion

I haven't gone back since but I plan on going back in the fall, hopefully to another school... unfortunately Aveda doesn't accept transfer students so I will start doing research in the coming months but I know a lot of people who went to Aveda and loved it and its very professional from what I have heard. My best suggestion is to just google all nyc cosmetology schools and then do a visit to the ones you are most interested in. As for the makeup classes, if your focus was Cosmetology in Empire, they only covered basic application for one week and no more. I think you can actually take makeup courses in international beauty school and even some makeup companies. I think Makeup Designery or Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics offer makeup classes. Good luck and if you find a school you like thats no Aveda, let me know!!!
