I live in NY and want to become a freelance makeup artist, I understand it'll take time to make this into a career but this is my passion and I love it. My problem is I have a son and I want to know can I really make money from it to take care of my family? I would really love to talk to an actual makeup artist who can help me and give me tips please... I would more than appreciate it!

Mmmmm... you definitely should network and begin to self-teach yourself.

It helps if you work in the industry, I work at a store that sells makeup and I get a lot of clients that way. And get a business card so when someone compliments your makeup you just hand them a card, I got two clients that way when I went to get a bagel on my day off. Invest in a foundation kit, get a few blush and eye shadow palettes, primers, basic things and you can watch youtube videos but I suggest getting all kevyn aucoin books and reading them over and over again.

If you have the money I would suggest Chic Studios, it's in lower manhattan and they teach you everything to get you started including provide you with a kit.
