Yes I've used just the tips I've actually developed an allergy to acrylic so I can't use it. But I think just the tips work. You can also file on the cease a little so it's touching your nail a little more.

I've done my own acrylic nails and also have gotten them professionally done and there is a little lump. I've never tried it but maybe if you put enough clear polish over it. You won't be able to tell.
