I recently had this same problem, I used a slice of lemon, rubbed it over my nails and let the juice sit for a few min. before washing it off, filed and cleaned up my nails and tah dah.! no more yellow :)
if it doesn't go away on the first try, continue using lemon juice until it starts clearing up :)

I never knew you could use a lemon, wow :) but I find a nail buffer works in a similar way it also makes your nails shinny :)

What also works is saving a q-tip with hydrogen peroxide and rubbing it on your nails, or a soak for 3 min.
