Liquid eyeliner malfunctions

I don't really have a picture for this, but I have this problem that when I apply my liquid eyeliner on the top of my eyelid I always make sure to do it as close to my lashline as I possibly can, in fact I get so close I end up smearing eyeliner on my eyelashes, but there is always this thin line of skin between the eyeliner and my waterline. not sure if this makes sense but it's pretty aggravating.
also, not sure if this information is useful, but I have really straight eyelashes and I curl them but nothing I do gets rid of that empty space! any eyeliner-applying tips would be pretty cool.

Try tightlining! It's when you use a pencil liner to line the upper waterline if that makes sense. It makes a big difference.

Look up videos on YouTube, there are tons! :)

Apply eyeliner to the tight line, it works!

I agree to try to tightline. But katarina's definition is incorrect, its actually when you push a black shadow or liner into your lash line, that way it fills in the gaps and creates the illusion of thicker lashes.
