I'm pretty sure most of those piercings are done using surgical steel. I used to work in a jewelery store for a long time. Surgical steel actually contains lead which can lead to irritation and/or infection if you have very sensitive skin. Try to find a piercing made from titanium if you can.

Agree about titanium, but also I didn't have problems with surgical steel... or if you have money, can buy a ring from high quality gold.
