I'm a first timer and I want to learn more about makeup, can anyone explain so me what a highlighter and primer, bronzer, ect are used for? >___< please and thank you.

Actually you shouldn't use Bronzer to contour. Bronzer typically has a shimmer to it, which should be used almost as you would place a highlighter but for a tanned/bronzed effect. For contouring a matte color should be used. Too Faced's Chocolate Soliel is a good example. You want the contoured areas to recede on the face so you don't want any shimmer to it because that brings the feature forward.

Don't use makeup if you don't need it, the longer without it the better your skin will stay, I'd say Tweens don't need it

Primer - There are primers for everything just about, your face (I recommend Smashbox), your eyes (Urban Decay and Too Faced), and your lips (MAC or a nice thick lip balm). A primer sets up a smooth surface for the makeup to go on to and can help it pop as well as keep your makeup in place for a much longer time!
Eyeshadow Base - Used to intensify colors of your eyeshadow, applied after primer. (NYX base in milk, as a pencil or in a pot, is a must!)
Setting Sprays and Powders - Used after the initial makeup application to keep makeup in place for hours! (Urban Decay all Nighter is a good spray, Makeup Forever HD is a good powder).
Highlight/Contour - Techniques used to bring attention and brighten up certain areas in your face (highlight) and to darken areas in your face (contour). Can greatly change your face shape as it controls where the light is going to show up/hit on your face. (Sleek contour kit is amazing! You can get it off of Amazon)
Bronzer - Used to give your skin a sun kissed glow/nice effect in some areas of your face. Can also be used to contour. (No recommendations as I'm pretty...sun kisses naturally. xD)
It's also important to know that you can look up tutorials on YouTube, Pinterest, or even BL to help with these things but proper tools (and practice) are needed to make a look everything it should be. Good brushes include: Coastal Scents, Sigma, Real Technique, Sonia Kashuk (found at Target), MAC, and I hear Crown Brushes are good as well.

Just putting this out there, guys, whoever wants to wear makeup can wear it, no need to comment on anyone's age. its between them and their family, not you and your opinions :) have a good day!

Danni, nobody's telling who should or shouldn't wear make-up. The girls are just gving advices, and I agree with them when they say "don't use make-up" if you don't need it. If you have perfect skin, a concealer in the dark areas will be enough for your daily basis. If you already have proeminent cheekbones, why would you need to contour? And stuff like that.

Yeah if you want to get a thorough explanation from a credible source for all your questions (not that these explanations were bad, they were actually really good) but if you are a beginner there is probably plenty of other basic things you should be aware of. You should get a book that tells you all about the basics of make up. They are easy to understand and are MOST OF ALL helpful. I suggest Carmindy or Laura Mercier. They are the bomb.
