How can I get platinum blonde hair?

I'm originally a red head. I'm a golden blonde now, but I want bold platinum blonde hair. I would prefer using something I am purchase in a drug store instead of going to the salon. Thanks :)

I've looked at ice cream hair color at drug stores in red boxes, and they offer a silvery golden shade of blonde. Have any of you true that hair color brand?

Platinum blonde is pretty much impossible to achieve with box color and will probably turn it yellow. I know you don't want to but going to a salon is going to be your best bet. I'm a hairstylist and I've had to do a few corrective colors on people who have used blonde box colors and their was turned piss yellow and it costs more to get it fixed!

I agree with Megan. Platinum blonde is hard to get even in a salon. You can't do it with box color, period. And you would definitely need a toner. I'm a cosmetologist, I just got my license not too long ago and haven't even started working in a salon yet (I start Friday) and I have already seen my fair share of hair melt downs from people trying to go platinum blonde.

You have to bleach it, and before you do that you need to have a hair stylist evaluate your hair to see of it is even safe to bleach it. And if your hair isn't okay to bleach and you do it anyway, your hair will melt. Seen it wayyyy too many times.
