I have the hardest time with this, I've watched like 100 tutorials and it doesn't come out quite right, I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Maybe your using the wrong shades for your skin tone?
Jul 23, 2013

I go 2 shades lighter. I think it might be my blending method. everyone tells me to get a beauty blender but I can't find one anywhere.

Can you take a picture right before you blend the products.
How do you blend?
What do you use to blend?
What products are you using?

Sure I will next time I do it, and I'm still fairly new to makeup artistry. so most of my products are from the drugstore and I also have very few brushes. but the brush I use to blend is a blending brush.

A beautyblender isn't your best choice for contour, it's mainly used for foundation. :)
Try a highlighter that isnt just white, maybe a warm toned highlighter like Benefit Sun Beam will work with your skin tone better. :)

Try ruby kisses 3d face creator. I found it at the oriental wig/hair extensions store.

You don't want to use a bronzer bc they typically have a shimmery finish. you want to use something matte with grey-brown undertones bc when thats blended itll create thw shadow, hence highlight and contour.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll be sure to keep it in mind when I go out tomorrow.

Jaylin, I understand. I don't have brand stuff either. I use concealer, foundations, or powders to contour with.

Regarding your bronzer pallets, you can use them. And you can use bronzers to contour with. They would look even better if they're were matte. But yes bronzers are great.

Ebay Teardrop blender if you are married to the idea of using one. I've tried both, and they are essentially the same. You don't want to reuse blenders without washing them and the repeated washings are brutal on them, 20 bucks a pop gets a bit expensive.

I don't think you're taking your under eye highlight down far enough. It's kind of giving you 'reverse circles' under your eyes. See that diagonal line from your eyes that goes across your cheeks? You seem to have stopped your highlight there. Try going from the inner corner of your eye and then straaaight down to the side of your nose at the bottom and then diagonally up across your cheekbones. And I would maybe try something light in colour but a little more matte because what you're using looks a little bit too 'glowy'. You can always use something dewy or slightly shimmery on your cheekbones to bring that glow back without looking oily. I would go a bit darker on your contour as well. Maybe try looking at some eyeshadows as a contour as bronzers may not be dark enough for your skin.
Is that your natural eye colour btw? I love it!
Anyway, hope you manage to figure it out! It can be a nightmare!

It seems that maybe you are highlighting the wrong parts of your face. Your drawing all the attention to the center(forehead, nose and chin) a little too much. Try focusing on the cheek bones and the curvature of your face. the ideal shape of a face is round with evenly spaced brows, eyes and a regular size nose. the goal of contouring is to try and achieve that look. try getting a foundation matched to your skin tone exactly. once you do that, you need to buy the exact match, 1-2 shades lighter and 1-2 shades darker. try to get an oil-free foundation cuz it seems like you get shiney around your tzone. blotting papers are great for that. hope I helped you some! You are a gorgeous girl, contoured and defined or not!!

Hi. I'm a cosmetologist and a theater trained make up artist. Have you seen DressYourFace on youtube? I'd highly recommend her, she gives the most complete guide of where to highlight and contour that I've seen anywhere online. Shes also darker toned so I think that will help you relate to the right color tones better.

Well they sell beauty blenders on the beautylish website but I think instead of using concealer to highlight try using a light colored shadow or powder. It won't be as shiny
