I need some advice guys. I don't know if ya'll know but am a mom of 3 with one on the way. My oldest is 11 years old and she has a uni-brow is she too young to get her eyebrows shaped? I started late because my mom was not a makeup fan. She always said I looked fine. I been asking around and so far it looks like am running late with my daughter too. At what age did Ya'll get started with your brows and shaving? What about makeup?

Ugh, I had a huge embarrassment when I was about 11-12 because my mom wouldn't let me shave my legs. I was in sports and I was so ashamed whenever I had a game because we wore shorts. I don't think I started with brows until quite a bit later, but I didn't have much of a problem. I'm not a parent, but I honestly think that things like that should start when it starts being a problem because I wouldn't want to see someone go through what I did.
As for makeup, I only started wearing very minimal out in 8th grade. I'd say that can wait until high school...

Shaving ~ I started shaving my legs and pits when I was about 11 or 12, I think? Maybe 10? Can't remember.
Brow grooming ~ This I started very, very late. I didn't start with my unibrow until my late teens (even now I just shave it off with a brow razor; I've never had it waxed); fuller brow maintenance didn't start until long after that (only within the last few years, no wax).
Makeup ~ 11 is too early, IMO. I think that can wait until she's in high school, and even then, just keep it minimal.

I was 12 when my sister first tweezed my eyebrows. My dad didnt notice and my mom wasnt TOO bothered. As for makeup i started with eyeliner on the waterline and mascara when i was in 8th grade. And as for shaving my legs i was About 12, My leg hairs were pretty thick and i was in sports so i felt embarrased.. But my mom didnt mind.

I started shaving my legs when I was 13 or 14 for the simple fact hair isn't that dark there. But my eyebrows when I was 13 as well. I think it's fine for you to take a razor & clean up her brows. I wouldn't suggest a full waxing or plucking just yet because once your eyebrows are messed up it takes forever to get them how you want them again. As for makeup, I think 11 is fine for simple lip gloss. I didn't really start wearing mascara & eyeliner until I was in 9th grade.

Shaving: 13 (but I am blonde so not a big difference!)
Brows: 14 (I never really had a problem with them)
Make-up: 14 ( it was my first year in hs though)

You can try waxing it. Or you could shave it off with the facial razor, sold at walmart, target...etc

Oh, peer pressure. I started shaving around middle school years. Now I quit shaving because it's not necessary no matter what anybody tells you. ;D ;D ;D
I dunno. I wouldn't take an eleven-year-old to get eyebrows shaped or anything. C'mon, she's only been living for eleven years. She's not even in middle school yet. Well, I wasn't at that age.
I'm 20 and rarely do anything with my brows. I dislike really groomed brows. And I didn't start really wearing makeup until after I graduated high school at 17.

Maybe just removing the hairs in the 'unibrow' area? This won't affect the overall shape over her eyebrows; causing her to look older which I am guessing most parents don't want? I am not sure haha! I know that my cousin has it pretty bad there, and her mum is just allowing her to wax that bit, she is around 11 or 12... Yeah hope this helps!

Cyrielle - first, i love your name. Mine is Arielle :)
Second, I agree with Richelle! You can remove the unibrow hairs and still allow her to keep your youthful, innocent appearance. Kids can be mean and I do not think there is anything wrong with you protecting her against that.

From mom to mom id say try seeing how she feels about the unibrow...im sure shes beautiful regardless and if it doesnt bother her right now it shouldnt bother you but if it does just remove the hairs
And i started shaving my legs and arms when i was 13 because i was in jr high on the cheerleading squad and it was a requirement i didnt start wearing makeup or shaping my brows until i was 16

waxing at 11 is not LATE :P everyone i know (like my entire year) started shaving at 11 and then proceeded to waxing at like 13. waxing is fine but it can hurt younger children a lot so make sure she's comfortable with it. you could try threading also as that may hurt less. it's her choice ultimately though, especially seeing as some eyebrow waxing professionals really mess up your eyebrows and it's hard to grow them back, so be careful who does her brows xx

I don't think there's anything wrong with it! If she's self-conscious about it, something should be done. Your daughter shouldn't have to go to school feeling self-conscious about her eyebrows. Just make sure she doesn't OVERpluck. That gets messy. I know from experience.

I havent, but if she seems that she needs brow shaping, and if she'd be more comfortable, go for it! Ive had friends that shaved and tweezed at 12. Makeup though, really shouldnt be used until 13-14. I know my Dad was a stickler about that. And even then, id keep it light- lip gloss, little mascara, and if anything a tinted moisturizer.

I agree with Lacey. As long as she doesn't over pluck its cool. I started shaping my eyebrows when I was 12. I started shaving at 13 and started wearing makeup at 15. My mom only allowed me to use neutral colors, but I was ok with that! Now I'm 21 and I think that all the ages were appropriate :) Hope that helps!

I started shaping my brows at 17. At 11 years old she should be focused on homework, learning & playing at the park with friends and not worry about self image (ie. shaping brows) let her enjoy being a kid first.

I started waxing my son's unibrow when he was about 8... four years later it's so much better, and by the time he's old enough to be out on his own it probably won't grow back together at all. I feel like a unibrow is a much bigger issue than letting your little girl wear makeup, because this is something that can be eliminated over time and it's a thing that is judged so harshly if it's there but nobody will know if you're removing it. I don't know that I'd do a whole bunch of shaping, because you want the brows to still look very full and natural on a young person, but at least fix it so the poor girl has two of them, lol.
As for makeup, I can't advise you because I don't have a daughter... I can tell you that I wish my mother (or someone) had taught me HOW to apply makeup when I was younger and maybe taught me to flatter my face and my youth rather than trying to replicate a red carpet look on my tiny pudgy face. I really didn't bother with it much until junior high, and it still wasn't a daily thing until high school, but that was then and me and it's your daughter.
Shaving: as soon as she's bothered by her hairy legs and pits, let her do something about it. I would still recommend waxing there, just because it discourages hair growth (and it's painful enough that she won't be doing it just because she thinks she should!) and will make hair removal easier over time.

I think it's totally up to you as a mom! In this culture, growing up as a girl kinda sucks and you feel ashamed of your eyebrows, body hair, +++. If she wants to get her eyebrows done, and you feel like that's okay, definently take her to get it done! Or just teach her to pluck the middle herself. Whatever you choose to do just reassure her that it's natural and nothing to feel ashamed about.

I can totally relate to Gabbi D! When I was 12 I was on the volleyball team and when we wore shorts I would be so embarrased because my mom didn't let me shave my legs. But honestly no one ever really said anything to me, atleast not to my face. But my legs were so hairy omg I hated it!!! I feel like at 11 maybe you can just clean up the uni-brow yourself if you feel comfortable. Or if you take her to get them done let the person know not to really shape them and make them thin. Just kind of clean up you know. 11 seems still too young. Maybe like 14, 15 she could start shaping them how she likes. hope this helps =)

You should definitely get rid of the unibrow and start shaving now. I started with all that as soon as it became a problem, i didnt wait. as far as makeup, i started wearing it in middle school, just neutral stuff at first, now im in love with it, so i own a ton :) but i just think that if she wants to wear it let her, but dont let her walk out looking crazy. Its your decision kids are starting everything early now.

When i was 10 my sister just started to pluck under my eyebrows do my brow bone and only plucked a little in the middle...as i got older we started to thread them, but i told the beautician to them natural and turned out quite nice. i waxed my legs when i was 11 and when my hair came back i started to shave and from then on i have alway used Gilette Venus Embrace Razors. I am a dance so i have worn makeup form a very young age and i love it so much! but start of neutral nothing like foundation. sorry for long reply! :( x

You're not putting your daughter under the knife. If it causes embarassment for her, I would do it. I have a unibrow and I remember feeling so embarassed to the point that i started shaving it when I was ten. Now I wax my eyebrows, but in summary, 11 is not too young. She's growing up. Now makeup depends. It should be neutral, like a little bit of eyeliner in brown so that is isn't so dramatic, and neutral eye shadows. A good one would be the Natural Eye Kit from Two Faced. I love it! Some lip glosses would be great as well, like some from e.l.f. or from Smashbox.
