I heard that using products with sulfate in them on curly hair drys it out and damages it.. Is that true?

Sulfates are detergents that produce lather. They are found in a variety of beauty products, including soaps, body washes, and shampoo. Sulfates break up grease on the hair, allowing it to be rinsed away. In hair products, like shampoo, sulfates remove natural oils, dirt and hair product residue. Sulfates can be rather harsh for hair, and may strip away colour.

That's why when you can get the chance get sulfate free products!

Your hair produces its natural oils to keep your hair strong and healthy. Sulfates, like Ellie said are supposed to produce a lather and they strip your hair of its oils in the process. This can and will cause your hair to break and fall, and in my experience with using shampoos with sulfates in them, it causes the hair growing out of the follicle to be weaker and it also slowed down the growth of my hair. The effects of sulfates will vary from person to person but I suggest you use shampoos, conditioners and even body washes that are sulfate-free.

What kind of shampoo and conditioner do you guys recommend?

Thank you 😊 I recommend conditioner washing and I don't use shampoo. My fav conditioners are V05 clarifying kiwi and lime conditioner to cleanse my scalp, rinse out, and then I use tresseme naturals silicone free conditioner for detangling and leaving in.

Sulfate dries out your hair like crazy. Ever since I stopped using my shampoo with sulfate, my hair is softer and Its growing a lot faster. (Ironically I was using herbal essence anti frizz...even though it was making my hair frizzier lol)

Well sulphate is a stripper and it helps lather up shampoo but it is damaging to your hair over a long period of time and if you colour your hair it can strip the colour even it is permanent :) so you can use a non-sulphate shampoo and condition they do make a difference so it's good and I use a one I think it's lorael Paris one the one in the pink bottles in drug stores in the UK :)

Sulfates=no good! But most products now a days are sulfate free but look at the ingredients sometimes you'll catch the sulfates in it

You can think of a sulfate basically as a salt (that's what it is chemically, essentially). They create that sudst effect when you lather your hair but can be very drying. I know they're better for my hair, but you do miss the satisfying bubbles of regular shampoo. :(
