Okay so I know this is kind of a stupid question but I want dark red highlights in my hair someday, so I thought I would try just a temporary dye first and see if I like them, I was going to use Manic Panic but then realised that all the sample pictures show that it dyes all the hair, not just highlights?!? Sorry I'm a newbie please help! Can I use Manic Panic just for highlights?

You can just take strips of your hair and dye them, right?

Wait for other people to answer though, lol. I'm not an expert on hair dye.

Yeah, instead of applying the dye to your whole head, just choose the sections of your hair that you want highlighted. There are probably more in depth videos on YouTube on how to go about it. Good luck though!

If your hair is naturally light, preferably blonde, you're already on the right track. If not, you need to bleach the strips you want dyed. Otherwise, you're going to end up with plum strips in your dark hair rather than dark red. Been there, some that. After I bleached the strips I wanted to dye using Manic Panic turquoise it turned out the color I wanted. Take it from me. Bleach the strands first. Of course you can highlight using the dye. Good luck!

What's your natural color to begin with? That will effect the dye (MP is crap anyway), and how much you have to bleach will also change it. The lift can make it brighter or darker, depending on how dark the color is to begin with. Make sections, use tin foil for the bleach and while doing the streaks because it saves the messiness.
