I'm not in makeup career-wise but I'd say practice, practice, practice. Take a couple courses maybe? Definitely take pictures of your work do you can create a portfolio. (I could be wrong, but as far as I know this is how to get a start at it)

Have you done a beauty or makeup course? If you have then apply for jobs as a beauty adviser and they train you even more as a makeup artist then go from there :)
