I have had it since childhood. You may already know this, but it is a disease of the immune system. A great derm and healthy eating along with vitamin E, C and Zinc work wonders. Nerves often trigger outbreaks for people. I stay moisturized and avoid very hot showers that dry the skin. I use a nubby washcloth and natural loofah to keep any patches down and then am religious with regard to applying my meds. A little sun is excellent for it as well. If you have it on the scalp..tea tree oil shampoo is awesome and provides relief. Sounds weird, but my doc has me apply meds after showering when skin is most absorbent and occasionally on stubborn patches...wrap them in saran wrap...which works miracles for trapping heat and moisture which leaves the skin super soft. I'd consult my derm on that as every medication is different.

I had it head to toe as a teen...minus my face..thank God. Now...just patches that come and go on the scalp and torso. Improved after my teens and with a great derm.

I have it everywhere. my face used to crack and actually weep but its much better now. nothing has worked for me. I stayed in hospital for tar and light treatments but no luck so now on to pills called methotrexate. it sucks becausr my legs are awful but I love shorts. living in black tights :(

Amy...have you done anything to boost your immune system or cleanse toxins from your liver and colon? I'm concerned that perhaps your derm isn't properly addressing these issues. It's always good to seek another derm's opinion.

We've done a fair few tests. these pills are a last option for me otherwise I just have to carry on with it. which is a nightmare. my face is alright now but my arms legs and stomach get really bad. unfortunately where I live there is one hospital with a dermatology department so I can't seek another opinion :(

I have it too on the scalp, but a mild case. I find polytar shampoo good enough to relieve my scalp but I find it too drying and very temporary. So if I'm advised to used it one or twice a week, I still get an unhealthy flaky scalp 5 or 6 days a week. I'm currently on medication with my derma to try to find a more permanent (or better smellin), good alternative. But I still can't seem to find one.
Maybe I'll try the olive or tea tree oil. Thanks EYDIS & ROZBERRY!
