Hi Adojoa! I did a big chop back in early 2012. My hair was a good 16 inches! Let me fill you in on my tips and tricks for growing hair! ^ ^!
* Never chemically treat your hair!
That is my big no no.
* Wash your hair ONCE a WEEK. Crazy right? After you wash and condition your hair, NOURISH your hair with oils. Your goal is always to never let moisture leave your scalp.
* When it comes to heat, LESS is GOOD. Treat your hair like royalty. Massage your tips with oils and butters.
I use mango butter, argan oil, and Indian hemp. Castor oil is great for the roots and tips, nothing else. coconut oil and argan are good for wrapping your hair up at night. always use something silk to wrap your hair up. Anything else can promote breakage.
Hope this helped, and good luck! ^ ^!

I agree with Cecille you have to be very careful with what you put in your hair. if you do relax (same goes if non relaxed) your hair keep it moisturized. water is a black woman's hair friend believe or not. Thats why moisturizer is water based. Stay away from anything that has petroleum, parabens, sls (sulfates), or wax. I hear blowdrying hair with low or no heat helps against heat damage. sleeping with a satin pillow or scarf help retains moisture! I have locs and I definitely see the difference sleeping with and without one. you will have to do research, googling, experimenting before you find what works for you but what cecille and I mentioned will definitely fight against breakage also a great diet.lots of water, nuts, greens , veggies etc.
