What type of dance? If it's fast paced, I'd suggest a flowy skirt and heels. If it's like bellying dancing or more stationary, yoga pants and a comfy shirt! :)

Yoga pants, sweats or tights & a shirt you can move in. I have dance class in school & I wear tights & a kind of loose shirt. Have fun dancing (:

If you are doing ballet do not wear loose clothing, your teacher will hate you. If you're doing ballet wear a solid leotard and tights. Preferably black leotard and pink tights. But for jazz I usually wear leotard, tights, spandex, and a tank top. To be safe I would wear a leotard and nude tights under what ever you wear.

For most of the classes you can wear yoga pants or leggings with either a crop top or a tight fitting tank. Loose tops are nice and airy but your teacher needs to be able to see whether you are doing all of the right contractions, etc.
I'm curious, why don't they want you to wear proper ballet uniform for the first class?
For the pointe & the rest of the ballet classes you should definitely wear your pink tight&leo. A leotard & black tights could also work for your modern. When you buy tights, get the convertible kind.
Maybe your studio isn't strict about this, but you should get a nude bra with clear straps to wear under your leotards. Find out if you need foot paws/foot undies or anything else like that.
I love buying stuff from discountdance.com :)
Finally, don't forget to stock up on hairspray and hair grips ;)

I have that same leo in lighr blue!! It's awesome :)
And that makes sense, for some reason I just couldn't figure out why they would tell you not to wear proper ballet clothes...even though my teachers always tell new students not to buy anything until they know it's something they want to do.
And thanks, I'm currently doing ballet & modern, although we cover everything from jazz to lyrical in the modern classes.
How long did you dance before you stopped?

If I were you, bring a leotard and tights just in case your teacher wants to see the lines. As for everything else: Shorts, maybe leggings to warm up in and a loose tank with a sports bra under. I've been a competitive dancer for 14 years and I practically live in this stuff. It will keep you cool while allowing you to move and giving your teacher the ability to watch your lines. Also, hair in a pony tail. It makes everything so much easier.

I've danced for a while, and in Ballet, the way to go is DEFINITELY tight short shorts and a tank top, sports bra, t-shirt, something like that. Sophie's are an awesome choice, and you can get it at Sport's Authority, and I'm sure other places carry them as well. Wear a tight fitting shirt so that your lines are easily visible. Wear your hair up so you can spot and all that good stuff, and also to help keep cool. I've been dancing competitively for 11 years, and other than a Leo and tights and stuff, this is what I would wear. Good luck, and have fun! :)

I'm in Dance class right now and my teacher makes us wear black leggings because they are easy to move in and also help with the sweat. On top, I wear a simple jersey v-neck. It's a comfortable combo easy to dance with and do demi/grande plie's and arabesque's with!

It's great that you're getting into dancing again! You must've missed it.
I go to a school called Cape Academy of Performing Arts but you've probably never heard of it - it's no Royal Ballet School! I'm definitely hoping to make it professional, mostly in contemporary ballet/modern as opposed to classical.
