What does this stuff actually do?! Lol does it really control oil? Which brand do you guys use? Is there any other benefits of using it on your face that it does besides control oil?

Milk of magnesia can be used for undearms as well as on the face. Now it is not recommended to use on the face by many because of its pH balance can actually make your skin worse but I have been using it under my underarms then applying my regular deodorant and haven't sweat a thing especially in summers in Texas.

A lot of professionals use it as a primer before makeup application and I use it as a mask for 5 minutes or so before I apply my makeup. There is really no proof that is is "bad" for your skin, or makes it worse. There will only be a few options for you to choose from at your market in the pharmacy department. Just get original and unflavored. It is most commonly used to treat mild stomach discomfort. Works well for me, and it doesn't have any adverse effects on my face.
