What do you mean catch?? Don't use box dye. Color doesn't lift color especially if your hair is that dark! All box color developer is 20 volume, please go to a professional :)

If you want to go lighter then you would need to lighten your hair first. Go to a professional. It's one thing to dye your hair yourself, but to lighten it... That's always a terrible idea. The spots you miss will be more obvious.
