Through the YouTube beauty community, I've found a love for all things beauty related! The problem is, when I first discovered it last year, I went a little makeup crazy (no self-control, I know!) and bought way too many products that I actually don't like or use very often.
I want to start experimenting with different looks but my current makeup collection doesn't really allow me to do that. So, my question is, what are some beauty must haves? Or general tips for building my makeup collection?
Please keep in mind that I'm on a student budget - I don't mind splurging every now and then, but I can't quite go out and buy all MAC products.

Don't but loose eyeshadows, you could buy a 120 palette instead. For your face you could start of with just one bb cream or foundation and a concealer. For the lips take 1 nude color and 1 bright color you like, pink or red for example. If you like you can also buy blush and bronzer but personally I don't use that:)

One thing I did when I first started building my collection was going to sephora and trying a bunch of different products. I would buy the smallest sizes of things that I liked and tried them out for a while. I also did research to see what were the best products for my kind of skin. As far as eyeshadows, buy a huge palette- BH Cosmetics has very good ones. You can also get a brush set that comes with every basic brush you would need.

Moisturizer, concealer, foundation, setting powder, blush, lipgloss/lipbalm, neutral matte eyeshadows, mascara, brush set, eyeliner pencil. (Liquid liner is tricky)

Mascara. I love mascara and to me, when it comes to makeup, you can look finished with an easy Almay eye liner and a full mascara.

I recommend mac matchmaker and loose mineral foundation. I only splurge on Mac, Ud, and still. Other than that don't invest too much because you have to rotate your make up and throw out the old.

If you're going to buy 1 MAC product, I highly recommend checking out their Mineralized Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle. They have great lipsticks, but you can find dupes if you look around on youtube and whatnot.
As far as eyeshadows go I would check out Wet n Wild or BH cosmetics for a larger palette. My best friend has some BH palettes, and she adores them. I use Loreal Infallible Gel Lacquer Liner 24 Hour as an eyeliner. It comes with an okay brush, but if you want to be able to create a thinner or thicker line I would get Sonia Kashuk's eyeliner brush with the bent end. For mascara I've heard that Physicians Formula Organic Wear Fakeout Mascara was a nice one- I've been dying to try it! If you want to contour I've heard people buzzing about NYC's sunny bronzer, so I'd check that out if I were you!
That's all I can think of at the moment. I hope I helped! :)

Before going out and buying a load of products that you think might work, do some research and have a look at a variety of reviews on YouTube to see whether or not they're going to work with your skin type. Saves wasting your money:) I agree with what the other girls said really but if you are on a budget then there are plenty of drug store dupes of the higher brands, again there are plenty of YouTube videos based on it:)

I have pretty much stopped wasting my money on drugstore cosmetics. I know a lot of people like them, and that's fine, but when I think about how much money I spend on "impulse" items at the drugstore and end up hating them and throwing them away...I get a little queasy. I insist now on swatching and trying makeup at Sephora and Ulta before I purchase, and don't get me wrong, I am on a budget as well. At least even at a MAC counter you can try products on first, and get a feel for the formula. I just hate wasting things that don't work for me too.

Start off with a nice concealer such as hard candy or a Maybelline one, you can always mix concealer with moisturiser to ease you into foundation, get yourself a mascara and a pretty lipstick then slowly get into eyeliner, eyeshadow and all that jazz :)

I would try buying the more crazy (ex. Pink eyeliner) at the drugstore because they're not so everyday and incas e you don't like you wouldn't have spent so much money on it.
