I want to dye my hair, probably red, how would manic panic look over my hair color? You can see my color in my profile pic.

It would turn it that color of red, or maybe a bit darker. I've used Manic Panic for years and my hair is a dark brown. I used to color is Plumb Purple, After Midnight Blue, and Vampire Red (now called Pillbox Red) over and over again. The color also stays really well!

First off don't use manic panic...if you want red youll have to bleach your hair first then dye it red unless you have never dyed your hair before in that case go to sallys and they have red hair dyes for brown hair and you can use that if however you have dyed your hair before go to sallys purchase a bleaching kit leave the bleach on until your hair is orange don't lighten all the way to a yellow! then choose a red hair color and matching developer and put that on top of your bleached hair.

Why not manic panic?

Don't bleach it, my friend goes to the hairdressers and had really dark brown hair. The hair dressers didn't bleach it and got the colour to a fluro red. Bleaching your hair yourself isnt a good idea anyway because you get more breakage and hairdressers never recommended doing it in one go. Your meant to bleach your hair gradually with highlights etc.first. I've been blonde for 4 years so I know what I'm talking about :)!

I wish I had some pictures of it. I did the Plumb Purple in the 6th grade, I did After Midnight Blue in the 7th grade, and I did Vampire Red in 8th, 9th, and 10th grade over and over again. My hair was down to my tush.

Also there's a higher chance that the red won't stick as long if you bleach your hair because it's been so damaged.

It really depends on the vibrancy of the red..if you want it to be bright vibrant and have the most color payoff you will need to bleach it first (it's like creating a clear canvas) using manic panic over the lightened hair is ok if that's the type of red and product brand you prefer. If using it over brown hair you probably won't get the color payoff vs bleaching it and depending how dark your hair is it might just add a subtle bit of red which some prefer but I would use a different type of dye if you're going for a more subtle look. Manic panic is usually good for bright fashion colors.. If you're still unsure I would go to a salon and see a stylist.

Hair dyes like manic panic are good however keep in my that they won't stay in your hair as long as other dyes.

Manic Panic stayed in my hair for 6 weeks typically. The After Midnight Blue stayed waaaaay longer then that though lol.

I think it depends on how healthy the hair is and how it takes to dyes.

Now that you've bleached top part of your hair it's going to be more difficult to match the top and bottom colours if your after an all even red. I wouldn't defiantly recommend going to the hairdressers.

I just heard that manic panic is better for your hair than other dyes, so I thought it wouldnt cause as much damage when if I re-dye it more frequently vs. bleaching.

And I also only buy cruelty-free, and manic panic is.

Manic panic is a good hair dye. It's similar to a fudge which is why it's better for your hair than other dyes because it conditions. However even with manic panic the red on top will eventually fade and as you've put a lot of bleach on the top the damage to your hair will make fade it that little bit faster. If you treatment your hair once a week though the colour will eventually last for longer. If you want the red just on top it obviously it won't matter about matching the bottom colour , however keep in mind you'll need to keep rebleaching your roots so make sure you are using some type of treatment

If you want a vibrant red, I'd suggest loresl hicolor.

Loreal. I'm using manic panic right now. I hate it. You could also use special effects. They are vegan/cruelty free very vibrant and last over a month.
