Lately I have been seeing a ton of BB creams come out from a variety of beauty lines. I was just wondering what the big craze is about. What are the benefits and such? How to best apply? I got a sample of the maybelline product in the mail and it seemed nice but I am sure there are better ones out there. Help?

I don't get it either...I've tried a few but every time all it really is is an expensive tinted moisturizer. I don't get why they're so popular. :P.

A bb cream is a combination of products (moisturizer, sunscreen, foundation). Some are known to be primers as well or have antioxidants and antiaging ingredients. I've tried stila, maybelline, urban decay and garnier. Stila and maybelline made me break out BAD! especially maybelline. UD and garnier have been awesome! I bought the garnier one as well because you get a lot more product and a little goes a long way! (and UD is a bit pricey). Both have great coverage and are very light on the skin :)

I personally don't wear foundation or concealer (other than special occassions) but I looooove my bb creams because they cover little red spots and even out my skin tone while at the same time protecting my face :) I hope this helps and I apologize for my crazy punctuation but my phone doesn't cooperate with this app for some reason :/

Okay thank you! So go for the more expensive brands? Also, would could you substitute a BB cream for your morning moisturizer? I have combination skin so my T zone gets quite oily. Would doubling up on moisturizer make it even worse?

I have the maybeline BB cream and I don't really like it, it doesn't cover any of my red spots and it makes my face super shiny, that's the only one that I've tried though so I'm not sure of any good ones to recommend to you sorry.

I have used MAC bb cream and it was not great at all, bb cream is for lazy day. Its not for long hour use, I'm switching back to foundation!
I havent tried Korean ones because I don't really trust their ingredients.

I agree that every drug store brabd of BB is just a tinted moisturiser. My current go-to is Cliniques BB cream.

Western BB creams are, by and large, over-glorified tinted moisturizers. Go Asian, for sure.

I highly recommend checking out the BB cream reviews on Musings of a Muse. She's reviewed tons of them -- western and Asian.

A BB cream basically is your entire morning routine in 1 product. It hydrates, repairs skin (ex: wrinkles, etc) primes, and gives color. They generally also even skin tone. If you have normal to oily skin there is no need to use a moisturizer with them, but of you have dry skin you still should. They're great if your on the go, or you can use them under your foundation as they are build-able. Dr. Jart+ is good, smash box is also good. Sephora carries multiple different BB's.

Oh and if you're still unsure, the main difference in a tinted moisturizer and BB is that BB's repair and tinted moisturizers do not.

Smashbox, Bobbi Brown and the new Garnier oil-free version are great Western bb creams. I have all three and they all provide different finishes. Smashbox is semi-matte, Bobbi Brown covers acne scarring quite well and depending on the intensity of scars concealer is not needed and gives a matte finish. Garnier provides a matte finish and works great with my various finishing powders without getting greasy or turning orange.
