Are you exfoliating?

A chemical exfoliant should put the kibosh on any but the most stubborn bumps. For your skin type I'd recommend a BHA/salicylic acid leave on exfoliant.

I say this all the time, but Paula's Choice makes some of the best chemical exfoliants (particularly for BHA users) on the market. I adore her Clear 2% BHA Body Spray for my face actually, but her original 2% BHA is the most potent product with that concentration that she has available.

If you're new to chemical exfoliation, I'd probably start with no more than a thin layer all over the face once every other night, even less often if you consider your skin sensitive.

Facial steaming doesn't really do a whole lot for facial imperfections in my opinion; good products can address almost anything that has to do specifically with the skin's surface.

You can add retinol to your skincare regime but you have to be careful with that and AHA and BHA product are great I would suggest also french brand La rocha Posay ( hope I spelled it right ) or bioderma they are very good for acne prone sensitive skin and also what leuca S. said is so helpful hope your skin will be better and always remember patience is number one key for better skin ☺️

Lara yes I am exfoliating 2-3 times a week with the body shop tea tree exfoliating scrub, Leuca I actually just tried a Glycolic chemical exfoliant and it made my skin really red and irritated and didn't really help with the bumps but thank you anyway

I have had these before and they are a cause of yeast production from food we eat but it is normally not bad for us but just when the skin over produces the yeast. I have cleared my skin congestion with plenty of water, low dairy, which I see you have done as well, and a shampoo that is for fungal issues of the skin. Aloe Vera is also good cure for the skin congestion and I will find the name of the shampoo you can use :)

Nizoral is the shampoo and I know it seems crazy because it is a anti dandruff product but dandruff is related to yeast production. I leave the shampoo on as a mask at night for 5 minutes then wash it off with warm water and I do this a few times a week. You can also use it as a cleanser on top of your regular cleanser but just on the areas that need it. I would try the Aloe Vera too!

I was going to suggest Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser. I use it 2-3 times per week and it help me A LOT by clearing those bumps. But you said you tried something similar before and irritated you. So maybe you could ask for a sample at Sephora and see if you don't have a bad reaction.

Aryanna, glycolic acid is fundamentally different in comparison to salicylic acid. It is water soluble and cannot penetrate the skin's sebum nearly as effectively as SA, which is oil soluble. SA has the ability to actually get into your pores and work at the stuff that's trapped in there, which is more than likely at least partially related to the issues you are facing. This is all on top of it's ability to exfoliate the skin's surface like glycolic acid and other alpha hydroxy acids.

Your chemical exfoliating products must have a concentration of active ingredient that is appropriate for your needs, as well as have a precise PH that is low enough for them to function as acids while high enough that they don't damage the skin's natural barrier function.

A large number of products fail to meet even one of these criteria.

Oh I'm sorry my mistake I misunderstood thank you for taking the time to explain I appreciate it and I will look into a chemical exfoliant suited for my skin.

Consider giving up your scrub. It can be very damaging to your skin. The Ordinary niacinimide serum and the alpha arbutin serums did a great job on my congestion.

My best advice is to drink loads of water! And use a non foaming, oil based cleanser once every other day and on the days you don't use the cleanser just use warm water...get rid of that exfoliant for a while especially if the ingredients arent natural!
