I need help. No matter how hard I try my foundation never ends up looking okay. I find when setting it with minimal power it still looks super dry. I use moisturizer even though when I use it the foundation looks kinda separated if you look close enough. Even without moisturizer my face still doesn't look perfect though. I've tried all different moisturizers, tried letting it soak in for an hour and not. Today I used ole henrikson ultimate lift firming serum then purlisse moisturizer. I let it sit for 1 hour, then applied smashbox photo finish primer & NARS luminous foundation with beauty blender.

What's your skincare routine, what products are you using, and what's your skin type?

Alexis, I guess I'd say my skin type is dry? I use the soy face cleanser to take my makeup off at night then use neutrogena face wash. Then I put the sk-ii facial treatment Essense, the ole henriksen firming serum, & then the firming eye creams , ole vitamin c serum & then glam glow hydration mask some nights and different masks other nights. I know I need a better routine I just don't know what.

Out of curiosity, have you tried using other foundations? I have dry skin and I've heard from other gals that the Nars Luminous is not too pleasing on dry skin. I rotate between Urban Decays Naked Skin, MUFE Waterblend, and YSL Touche Eclat.

By separated do you mean it looks like you've had oil from your skin break through only it looks like that right away?

Kitty , not really I used maybelline fit me matte & pore less but it was basically same problem. This is my first high end foundation..

Try using a more moisturizing foundation, one suited to your skin type! It's always good to get samples when trying out foundations to make sure they are suited to your skin. L'oreal True Match Lumi from the drug store sets nicely on the skin if you'd like a drug store option. The Too Faced foundation also seems to be doing well with dry skin types. Ask for a sample at Sephora and see if you like them. The Naked Skin gives great coverage if thats what you're looking for. The MUFE waterblend is very natural but not big on coverage. YSL is moisturizing and beautiful. I've used the MUFE after getting a chemical peel and even though my skin had a random peeling patch, it didn't effect it at all. I would try it out and if your skin looks bad under the MUFE then you can address your skin care! I may suspect it to be the Nars since I've heard it's not too good on dry skin.

Definitely a Luminating foundation for dry skin! I agree with everyone's recommendations 100%! You can try the travel size Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk, it's the most beautiful finish on my clients with dry skin. Also, have you tried oil based cleansers? Try taking your makeup off with coconut oil for a good moisture boost while you're taking off your makeup. Good luck to you!

Just regular coconut oil? Alrighty, tysm (-:
And question , so with those foundations you put powder on to set and then if you run your fingers across it should feel dry and not sticky correct?

Olivia, your skin sounds similar to mine. Do you know the brand Tatcha? Although not on beautylish at the moment, they have their 4 piece skin care system at TJ MAXX for 29.99$! (Usually 65$). Before, I had issues with my foundation budging, feathering around the nose, and I felt that setting powder wasn't making me matte whatsoever. This kit changed my life, my makeup glides on and stays. Your canvas is your first defense! Priming and setting spray are also a must. Hope this helps❤️

Thought I should add it comes with an oil makeup remover and a rice powder exfoliator, followed by a luminizing serum and then moisture cream so you'll stay hydrated and smooth and I find it close to impossible to dry out throughout the day after this routine!

Do you use primer because if you get one suited to your skin type that might help. ♡
