So lately I've been abstaining away from makeup just to let my skin be free. On weekends I get dolled up and when I apply my foundation (at the moment being I have Tarte Amazonian Clay and Loreal true match foundation) it comes out cakey or in streaks. I apply face lotion and wait a while, then apply primer then let it set' but regardless my foundation comes out streaky or cakey. I use both a beauty blender or a stippling brush.

I do exfoliate but I just feel as if the makeup sometimes crumbles.

Are you using the stippling brush to apply the first layer of foundation? It has to be done in a patting motion like the sponge otherwise you get those streaks.. I usually grab my stippling brush for adding coverage in a specific area instead of applying foundation with it all over. The cakeyness can be caused by several things.. Product expiration, congested skin caused by outside pollution (especially if you don't chemically exfoliate.. Not with a scrub as those don't go very far.. )Bad primer and foundation combo, or the foundation not being suitable for your current skin type.

I've experienced that In my case, it's because I have surface dehydration. I've been working on that, but in the meantime I've been using sheerer foundation. First I apply moisterizer, let it set, my spf, let it set, then I've been experimenting with JUST SAY YES TO COCONUTS RESTORING BALM. I've been using it as a primer. You'd think my makeup would breakup over this greasy balm but it doesn't because my skin is so dehydrated that it sucks the moisture out of any foundation I use. My makeup doesn't breakup or look dry. I don't know if this is your problem, but it's something to consider. Also, I don't find a beauty blender or a stippling brush the most effective tool for a thick foundation like the Tarte one. I would use a denser buffing brush. But like I said, with my dry skin, I find buffing will stir up flakes and that's why I'm sticking to sheer to medium coverage with a watery consistency and a sponge gives a better finish. Then I'll spot conceal where necessary. Again, don't know if these tips will work for you, just throwing them out there.
