I've been contemplating getting a keratin treatment for my hair. I was wondering if anyone else has done it and how it turned out and how it affected your hair in the long run. I've heard excellent and not so great things. So it'd be great to hear some more opinions and stories.

Hi! I'm actually getting one tomorrow haha. I love them!!

Pros:
-I have dry, poofy, and frizzy hair. Something always needs to be done to it. But after the keratin treatment my hair is super shiny, soft, and sleek. I get so many compliments!
-I don't need to do anything with my hair. So If you're a busy person, it's worth it.
-It lasts 6 months.

Cons:
-Depending on what your salon uses, the chemicals can be bad to breathe in.
-Not washing your hair for 3 days is rough. So for example make an appointment on a Friday if you don't work on the weekends.

Hey Autumn! I did an Organic Keratin treatment and I was very pleased with my results compared to a normal Keratin.

I've been getting Keratin treatments done for years, but I stopped because of the Formaldehyde when it first came out. It was causing me migraines (when I never suffered from before) and the chemicals were way too harsh to the point where all the windows had to be opened and there had to be extra fans around and a cloth to covers my eyes. It did leave nice results and my hair very smooth and shiny... ends however need to be trimmed as it caused them to split.

I got the organic keratin almost a month ago and the experience was pleasant. My hair was prepped by being washed with a cleansing shampoo and a conditioner. From there my hair was allowed to air dry a bit, and my hair was parted and the treatment was distributed evenly. The treatment had no smell to it whatsoever (just a faint almost fruity scent.)
After my hair was thoroughly blow dried and flat ironed... no harsh smell and no chemicals that made my eyes water previously.

End results? No frizz and I can straighten my ethnic curly hair in under 30 minutes (compared to the 3-4 hours I used to spend.)
The Organic Treatment did NOT alter my curls as I know some women claim that it affects theirs. My stylist explained to me that for it to alter the curl pattern it has to be chemically straightened first with a perm.. So I still got to keep my curls, that being said the cuticle is smoothed out so they have a smooth texture now instead of a coarse texture.

I would consider your hairs state.. If your hair is easily prone to breakage or damaged already, I would focus on keeping it healthy first.

I did purchase the recommended salt/sulfate free shampoo and conditioner at the salon I got it done... I recommend sticking to whatever regime they recommend to get the best results out of your treatment.

Would I do it again? Yes, I go back in May :)
My big hair cut and the keratin treatment has made it very easy to deal with my hair especially for my career. I don't have time to be fussing with my hair and living in Miami where it's very humid.

Thanks everyone this has helped so much. And kitty I might have to try the organic keratin treatment. I really just want my hair to still be curly but make it easier to manage lol.
