Hi gals!

I recently switched my birthcontrol and now I have really bad break outs around my mouth and chin. Also my pores, especially on my cheeks are bigger than before.

I use a facewash and toner to clean my skin twice a day with a Clarisonic and use daycreme, but the break outs keep coming. I drink 2 litres of water a day and try to eat as healthy as possible ( but also love chocolate)

are there any good skincare sets/routines I need to take a look at? my skin almost feels rough eventhough I rarely use make-up.

I hope you can help me!

Love xx

I'd see a derm to discuss hormonal acne and how another birth control may benefit your skin.

How long have you been using the Clairsonic? I personally would pull back from so much exfoliation. You don't want to irritate your already enflamed skin or strip it dry. Overexfoliation is never beneficial.
What wash are you using and how was your skin prior to your medication switch?

I think these ladies covered it well on what can be done. Remember that each BC is different and the doseage can affect your skin. I would steer clear of any foods that contain hormones (Meats, dairy, etc.) for now and be gentle on cleansing like Rozberry mentioned.

I switched birth control because I also had break outs from the pil and now use a spiral( don't know how it's called exactly, I'm from Holland).
I think I'll stay away from the exfoliation for a while. I use l'oreal, and Olaz.

You need to be sure when you use the sonic that you don't press down with pressure. (You may already know this, but I wanted to make sure) My guess is your face wash and lotion contain fragrance. Check your labels for fragrance, parfum or any scented oils. I'd use a gentle, hydrating cleanser, such as CeraVe. You might want to look into a chemical exfoliant, such as an AHA to apply topically. That should reduce your acne significantly. You need to counter such products with a gentle, fragrance free moisturizer. I agree with Kitty on reducing dairy and meats for now.

If your birth control was given to you by a OBGY, I would still contact a derm to discuss alternatives for a pill. There are many varieties...and some actually improve hormonal acne. Good luck!

I was on hormonal birth control for 13 years and experienced hormonal breakouts on my chin and jawline no matter which one I was on, ortho tri cyclen lo, the nuva ring, and countless others. I would agree seeing a dermatologist may be your best bet. My skin didn't clear up until I got off hormonal bc completely after acquiring a blood clot on my retina:( Scary but glad I have clear skin after over a decade!
