Hi there,
So I've been using a vitamin c serum (like a see threw thick gel) and also a vitamin c cream. Both are good to use on the face but I've been getting breakouts from using both :(
I heard how great vitamin c is for the skin so I really want to keep using it but it's breaking me out soooo bad that my skin is just getting worse and I'm terrible for popping pimples so I'm just getting more and more scars.
Is there anything with vitamin c that won't break me out?
Thank you!

What products are you using?

How long have you been using it? Vitamin C purges the skin. The serum and cream might be overkill for your skin type too...usually serums will do the trick!

I don't think it's the vitamin c itself... And when I say vitamin c I mean ascorbic acid... Is that the active ingredient in your products? Or is it another form of vitamin c? The serums I have used were not a thick gel - and I only use them to treat specific areas that are discolored and don't apply it to my whole face - how much of the products are you using and if you can list ingredients that would help to figure out what is causing the breakouts - and it may not even be those products - honestly any number of things can cause acne

I agree with Diana, that it's probably not the vitamin c itself. It's probably another ingredient causing the problem. Also, Kylie has a good point, that it may be the cream that's the problem. In my opinion, creams are more likely to cause breakouts due to the fact that they are thicker and can clog your pores. That's not to say that serum can't break you out either. Any ingredient can break you out. In saying that, I don't know what your price point is, but Skinceuticals has a variety of vitamin c serums in different strengths and for different skin types, oily, dry, acneic, etc. This is a very reputable but expensive line. I've been using it for awhile but have recently switched to another less expensive brand. But I have dry skin that doesn't break out much so, I have more choices of products to choose from. Or you can continue with your serum & switch out your cream for another. Or possibly try a hydrating facial spray instead of a cream.

I found that both the serum and the cream broke me out but I must say the cream was worst I think.

That's not Vitamin "C". That's Vitamin "E". As although vitae is good for the skin, it's usually more compatable with drier skins. Not to say other skin types can't use it. But the vitamin c I use, also has vitamin e in it. Again, I have dry skin. And that cream has mineral oil and petroleum, two of the most pore clogging ingredients you can put in a skin product. They are not necessarily bad for skin, drier skins may tolerate it and even benefit from it, but definitely not sensitive or acneic skin. IMO, Those ingredients are better for body skincare products. Another brand that has a good vitamin C serum and cream is Ole Henriksen. And TIMELESS makes a good vitamin C serum.

Sorry I've been meaning to write vitamin E! My bad

Yeah Marlene nailed it on the head - some people are sensitive to mineral oil and find it clogs their pores - I'm one of those people - so that might be it.
