So the last two times I've gotten my nails done (including today) I've had a less than stellar experience, oily residue, nail polish so thick I can move it after its dried, bleeding, and just overall bad experiences.

I've decided to give up going to salons to get my nails done and I'm just going to do them myself.

Any tips or tricks for the perfect manicure and pedicure? Product recommendations? Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Hm, I have no tips or tricks, but I'm experimenting more with doing my own nails. I'm finding a lot of my nail polish peels off in sheets. It's weird. I hope you have better luck with doing yours at home!

I find Essie polish is the best for doing your own nails. Mine are prone to chipping and that polish definitely lasts the longest for me. It's like high end makeup, you usually get what you pay for. Definitely don't go with cheap nail polish, it's usually thin and prone to chipping!

Also I use a protein base coat and quick dry top coat and it helps a lot as well.

Sorry to hear about your experience with salons. I recommend opi polish. they're easy to paint, not streaky, formula is not to thin or to thick, and it lasts a decent time. Make sure to seal off with a nice to coat.

I would do, 1 coat base coat, then 2 coats of whatever color you want, and 1 coat top coat. Also if you want them to dry faster then get a nail dryer spray. I got mine at Wal-Mart. and cuticle oil will also help them dry. Hope this helps!!
