I've previously struggled with acne, but it's finally clearing up and I want to keep my skin clear and smooth. Any suggestions on how to do this successfully? I'm open to home remedies and/or products! :)

The best way to keep your skin clear and smooth is to keep using whatever cleanser or acne products you have been using, at least for a while. Any sudden changes to cleansing could cause irritation to skin. Secondly, drink lots of water, and even once and a while splash water on your face. This will keep your face hydrated. Another way is to eat lots of fruit, and also to change your pillowcase once a week. This will help reduce the amount of germs your face lays on every night. Finally, stay away from chocolate. Chocolate can cause breakouts because of the high sugar content.
An acne product I've been using for a few years is the Mary Kay Acne Clearproof system, if you're not using any products yet! Also the Mary Kay Night Creme is excellent to keep your skin smooth. Hope this helps!

Maintain a proper skincare routine, whatever you're doing to clear up your skin then continue to do it so it stays clear.

If you want to try new products introduce them one at a time very slowly to see how your skin reacts. If you don't see any breakouts/reactions in a few weeks then you can introduce a new product.

I would not suggest home remedies/DIYs and that just my personal opinion.

I disagree with Elizabeth to stay away from chocolate. I'm a chocolate fiend and I don't get breakouts from. Depending on how your body processes dairy and sugar will determine what will and won't cause breakouts.

What's your skin type?

I have normal to oily skin and here's my routine (this is just a reference, I'm not saying this is what you should be doing, but I do recommend all these products if you're interested in checking them out).

Morning:
-Splash of water
-No7 Beautiful Skin Toner for Normal/Oily Skin
-The Body Shop Vitamin C Moisturizer SPF 30

Night:
-Garnier SkinActive Clean + Purifying Oil Free Cleansing Towelettes (to remove makeup)
-Clarisonic Mia 1
-Origins Checks & Balances Frothy Face Wash
-Boscia Exfoliating Peel Gel
-No7 Beautiful Skin Toner for Normal/Oily Skin
-Korres Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial

The only mask I use is the Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask. It really clears out pores and leaves skin feeling clean, soft, and smooth.

I also have the Origins Charcoal mask and it's by far my favorite! I think that's what has really helped my skin. Thanks for your help!

Continue using what you're using. I found that constantly switching up products just caused my skin to continuously clear up then break out again. Find what works for you, and stick to it!

Stick to what you're doing.
I'd exfoliate here and there, use a moisturizer for your skin type and you should be good.
Always have a spot treatment product for the occasional break out.
I'd also use a mask once a week if you can.

Now, acne is usually caused by irritation of the skin(some people have different triggers.) it can be the time of the month, genetics.

Unless you're someone with a sensitivity to sugars then you won't break out from having sweets.
If you're lactose intolerant on the other hand, some people actually break out from dairy (milk chocolate included) so be aware of that.

Fruits won't necessarily make your skin clear BUT vitamin C can help you heal faster so it could help your acne heal faster.

Germs aren't the cause of acne per say. Acne can be caused by a mixture of sebum and dead skin cells that clogs the pores and the bacteria on your face can get trapped in and thrive in the oil/sebum.

Actually, some people are triggered/break out by their fabric softeners and can break out from that since they use the fabric softener on their pillowcases.

Water won't really rid you of acne, it'll keep your body hydrated but it doesn't really have any effect on your skin.

I would kindly disagree with aurora.I have been taking 8 glasses of water per day since long and it has improved my skin texture drastically as it helps in removing the toxins from the body.I would suggest to add some lemon juice to the drinking water and the results ll be jaw dropping!!

Try Zeroblem acne serum. It is a dermatologist-developed spot treatment designed product to clear up breakouts quickly by intensively targeting and healing unsightly, sore blemishes.
