I think to keep it from proofing you may want to keep some length to weigh it down. If you don't mind styling your hair it would probably work. I just styling my hair but obviously many don't mind.

Pros: way easier to style
looks good when straight, wavy, with soft curls, almost everything
it's fun to play with once you have soo many hairstyles to try
The only con would be that sometimes I miss my big hair ahah and depending on your taste you'll always have to style it (which I don't, I sometimes just wash it and let it air dry, so personal preference)
and if your hair is thick I'd suggest asking your stylist to thin out the ends
