Gels were really well. like eco styler gel or kinky curly define gel. I have Cantu and you can make a gel from flax seeds. also make sure it's detangles as well. every night I wet my hair because water is a natural moisturizer. and I seal it with oil, I braid it so that it doesn't get tangled. when I wake I wet my hair again and but a curling cream in and or a gel and seal it again with oil. I do this every night unless I wear a protective style that day. make sure it stays moisturized. the reason it is curly when wet is because it's very moisturized so you should get similar effects when it is moisturized.

I' am not African American, but I have curly hair. I have colored my hair since I was in high school, bleached it, colored, 3 years ago I bleached again to color it silver. My curls were fried. I started using cleansing conditioners, leave in conditioners for curly hair, and weakly deep treatments. It has been a trial and error finding products that helped me recover my curls. Products that I recommend: matrix Biolage cleansing conditioner for curly hair, l'oreal extraordinary oil conditioner for curls, l'oreal ever curl cleansing conditioner. Shea moisture shampoo, curl milk and leave in conditioner. l'oreal ever curl leave in conditioner. Gawain silky miracle worker and it's a 10 miracle leave in. Argan oil. Deep treatments proclaim argan oil. People with curly hair shouldn't use products that contain mineral oil, canola oil, silicones nor sulfates. I detangle my hair with a wide tooth comb when I have conditioner on. I apply the leave in conditioner to damp hair and then the oil to seal moisture, and I let air dry. I sleep with the pineapple method and the next day I activate my curls with water.

Yes patty is so right! and bentonite clay also helps to define curls. and if you need a nice clean apple cider vinegar rinse helps.

I too suport the gel method! I ruined my hair in high school by using the iron everyday and when I left for college I went natural and used a gel that my dad uses from rite aid and within a few short months my hair was really curly again. I was shocked at how fast it came back to life. Then... I ruined it again by getting into the whole iron routine and now I am trying to get back on track again with it. Best of luck! - Wish I could remember which one it was but it was an inexpensive blue gel brand from the drugstore. Worked like a charm.
