The Artis brushes look absolutely incredible but I don't have that kind of money to spend on one single brush! I've been looking in Amazon for dupes and I can find a bunch but I don't know what ones are the best. I've been reading reviews but it doesn't seem like a lot of people have much experience.

I know MAC has a collection of "toothbrush-style" brushes but they don't sell them in a set...

Matthew waitesmith and Taiki brush manufacturer came out with the Mac Oval brushes first a few years before they made the Artis brushes. The Mac ovals are great and if you have a (Estee lauder cosmetics company store outlet ) in your area like at a outlet mall. You can buy Oval singles or any mac brush cheaper. I bought my Mac oval 3 brush for $15 at Estee lauder outlet store versus $32 at a Mac store.
This is just a bit of info that may help you and I know if I could invest in oval brushes at a lower cost I would especially if it's Mac OG ovals that will last forever. :)
I may need to at least buy one of those dollar oval brushes on amazon to compare to the Mac oval. :)
Katie have you tried any of the Mac or Artis brushes to be able to compare or know the difference?
I'm curious who had tried or used the Mac or Artis brushes compared to a knock off to help give a solid comparison.

That is so interesting, Alma! I really hope I can snag a Mac brush at an EL counter when I go to the US! Thanks for the info.

Thanks Breeze, make sure you look for the Estee lauder Cosmetics Company Outlet store usually at Outlet Malls when you visit. They sell everything owned from Estee lauder at a lower cost since it is a outlet store versus their regular counter area's. :)
Katie maybe just buy one brush to help you grasps on the idea of how the real brushes are so that you could compare and may be able to find another at a lower cost that could be close to it. :)

I have the MAC Oval 6, and I have used some Artis Fluenta series brushes. The Artis brushes are much more dense than the MAC Masterclass brushes are, and the brush material is a bit different. In addition some of the shapes are a bit more domed than others are which are better for depositing color to specific areas on the face.
When speaking of MAC Masterclass or Artis brush, here's what you are paying for:
1. Uniform application with dense, microscopically small fibers.
2. These brushes have finer tips for blending which allows the user to blend any product down to an acceptable HD res level.
3. CosmeFibre: This material is proprietary to Artis brushes, so whatever dupe you think of buying, know that they will not hold their shape nearly as well as any Artis brush or in some cases the MAC Masterclass brushes.
4. The CosmeFibre bundle: How they bundle and shape this material produces complete consistency of application. Artis brushes are shaped by hand. A majority of the dupes you see are not.
5. Artis and MAC Masterclass brushes are chemically resistant in terms of taking on excess water which can cause the bundles to come out. These brushes won’t degrade from brush cleaning formulas. The same cannot be said for dupes of these brushes.
6. Resin: Both of these series of brushes utilize resins, durable plating, and proprietary monofilaments; hence, they are more dependable and durable over any other dupe brush on the market.
I know it seems silly to spend big money on Artis or even MAC Masterclass brushes, but if you are really into these types of brushes, I would buy a relatively cheap dupe. Some people get so wrapped up in the hype and how these brushes look, that they take next to no consideration as to 'how' these brushes function. You may very well not care for brushes like this at all because they just aren't for everyone. If you want to buy a dupe just to get a basic idea, I'd recommend the Etude Brush 121. It's a smaller brush stature wise, but it is densely packed and you can change the head from bristle to a sponge head. The best part...It's only $12. Here's a link to it:

If you purchase this brush and you like it, then move on up the ladder to a MAC Masterclass brush. If you like the Masterclass series brushes, then move up to Artis. Of course, these are only my opinions. :)
