Do you think it's possible for someone to go from having a lot of pimples to having great, clear skin? I used to have a lot of pimples but it's getting better but I still have mini zits and some acne scarring on my cheeks. I've been taking care of them for a few months now by using face cleanser, moisturizing, and exfoliating with something that contains salicylic acid every 3 days. Also every morning I use toner on my face. The only thing I don't use is SPF but I only want my pimples to be gone which is why I neglect SPF. But have any of you girls went from having constant pimples on your face to clear skin?

I had pretty bad acne for about 6 years and I was recently put on Accutane (just finished) and my skin has really cleared up. Right now I'm focussing on removing red marks and discoloration with AHA exfoliators and protecting my skin with spf so my marks won't be darkened by sun exposure.
But yeah, It's definitely possible for people's skin to clear up

I used to have good skin with occasional pimples until I started experimenting with makeup then I started getting a lot of breakouts on a regular basis so I realized I couldn't put just anything on my face and that it was sensitive to certain products - once I figured that out the road to clear skin was clear for me - in junior high I used proactiv and that worked for a while until I got into college - but at that time it wasn't bad yet so I didn't invest too much in skincare until after my bad breakouts - first I tried to use more natural products - I started with the Alba botanica acnedote line and that cleared up my skin really fast - so I saw a breakthrough in my acne my skin cleared up and I tried to use more natural acne remedies like witch hazel and tea tree oil and to this day I still use tea tree oil products - I find they work well at treating cystic acne which is big red mosquito like bumps that are difficult to treat as they usually take a long time (months) to heal and are very painful and noticeable without makeup - and tea tree oil works great at reducing the redness and swelling of the bumps - I also invested in more spot treatments that had good reviews from cystic acne sufferers - so what works for me are the Mario badescu buffering lotion to get the bumps to a whitehead and makes them easier to get rid of then I use the drying cream or a sulfur mask to dry out the whiteheads and get rid of them - so that stuff helped clear up my acne in the beginning and after my acne was clear I had to deal with the scarring and I found paulas choice was amazing when I used her 2% BHA gel with her c15 vitamin c serum it faded my scars quickly - within 2 months the old scars were barely noticeable without makeup - I can now say my skin is back to how it was before my bad breakouts to now I only get occasional breakouts during my time of the month - so I know my acne is hormonal and I know I need to see a doctor to truly treat them and get rid of them but I just personally don't trust doctors in general so I try to avoid them honestly - but I will probably try to see someone when I move back to the states in October - and hopefully just find a good derm that can get rid of it for good / and that's really the best advice I can give - if you really want to get rid of your acne fast - without wasting money via trial and error you should see a derm - they are the experts that can help you solve your skin problems and faster than you can on your own - you can have clear skin if you invest the time and money to have it :)

Oh yeah and SPF is a must especially if you use acne products or trying to get rid of acne scars - all acne products say on the label to use SPF after using their products because the sun is a strong source of UV light and it can denature your skin cells and cause cancer - think of what it will do to any products on your face - it will make any scars darker and make them take longer to heal - so you need to be wearing at least SPF 15 or more every day - even if it's cloudy the UV rays can penetrate the clouds

@Ashley how long have you had accutane? Does Aha exfoliaters really remove redness? Which do you recommend?
@Diana I looked through your pictures and they're amazing progress! Your skin is so nice and clear now. You seem to put a lot of investment into skincare. I'm definitely going to order from Paula's Choice. I heard a lot from that brand and it's pretty reputable and seeing as how your skin is so smooth now I'm sold

@diana the thing with SPF is that I hate reapplying every few hours. Do you have to do that?

You can use a physical sunscreen and as long as you don't sweat or rub your face there is no need to reapply. There exists SPF sprays as well that make reapplication easy. I use the one by bioderma.

I forgot to say: sun block is the most important in skincare. If you don't use it while using exfoliants your skin will be damaged and age quickly. And you won't realize it until it's too late...

Yeah you can use a foundation or bb/cc cream with SPF in it and just reapply that as needed or you can get a powder that has SPF in it and use that instead - I personally don't reapply it but I make sure not to go outside when the sun is the strongest from like 10am-2pm or if I know I'm going to be outside then I don't wear heavy makeup just a bb cream and reapply it if I need to - but thank you my skin is really not that smooth all the time - like I said I still get the occasional break out and with every new break out comes new scars to deal with but using the paulas choice products make them fade quicker and make them less noticeable over time - so definitely get her stuff it's really amazing for sure.

I used to have a huge acne problem. Even when I used cleansers it wouldn't fully go away. Then I tried the Clean and Clear acne set and it actually cleared it up! I was so amazed haha. Now my skin is really clear. For a while I was cleansing almost everyday and using toners and stuff. Even experimented with different face masks. Then started drinking more water and more exercise and now my face doesn't have that acne problem anymore!
I think try to find a cleansing set with treatment and that might help. It did wonders for me!

From my experience, what "cured" my acne was birth control. It changes your hormonal balance from the inside because that's where acne comes from. It comes from INSIDE your pores so going on medication is probably your best bet. Of course skin care is necessary but there's only so much it can do

Hey! I just want to make this simple. Have you tried going organic with your skincare? Mostly, chemical based skincare products contain harsh chemicals that can cause more acne in order for you to continue buying their products. Just a thought??. Also, I want to share a few things I use that has improved my skin so much; I use: Benzoyl Peroxide, organic coconut oil with a few drops on tea tree oil, organic vinegar. The Benzoyl Peroxide really and truly gets rid of my acne, seriously. But since it's a harsh chemical that can dry out your face, I then use organic vinegar as my toner, which really improves my skin and balances the PH of your skin; I then get a dime size of my coconut oil with two drops of tea tree oil. Not only is this moisturizing, but this stuff is antibacterial, which fights bacteria. You can go to sleep that way. Also, when I go out, I do the same thing, but I don't use my coconut-tea tree oil mask. I use my organic hydrating mask with my organic oil free SPF- this stuff is amazing! I promise, I doesn't leave your skin oily at all, and your skin feels completely hydrated and makes your skin look plumed! I buy my organic skincare at 100%pure.com. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask! @shengmin L.
