As an early teen I used to have awful acne. As I got older (I'm only 21 lol) it got better, so entering college I was less of a pizza face lol. I now have the Nexplanon IUD Birth control and during certain times it can cause wicked cystic acne breakouts. Granted they are always short-lived and it's a once a month thing, I can never leave them alone and picking causes hyper pigmentation.
I started using Make Up Artist Choice's peels. I used the lactic acid peel and it helps with the cystic break outs in like 3 days - they are completely gone. But I have no idea what peel to use for the hyper pigmentation I'm suffering from. I also tried MUAC's fade peel and it was just ok.
Does anyone have suggestions for brands or peels for hyperpig, evening out skin tone and eliminating large pores?

Hi Chelle, what a great question, I hope some of our skincare expert users will see this and help you out :)
I don't know if this will help you (I'm not really a skincare expert myself haha) but I love my paula's choice AHA treatment - I really feel like this has given me a more even skin tone and it has done wonders on my pores. My fellow moderator Kitty recommended this to me and I'm so happy she did :)

I'm not a derm or a skin care expert however I do have awful hyper pigmentation myself. I have found that nothing over the counter works. My derm prescribed Obagi (hydroquinone) and that works amazingly well for about six months, and then your skin adjusts to it or something and the dark marks come back. There are some products sold at Ulta that have hydroquinone in it, they're just not strong enough to help me. I have an appointment to get mine lasered. Fingers crossed it works!

@Sabrina, thanks so much! I've been looking into Paula's choice but I read more of the blog than purchase products. I'm going to check out some reviews and see what would be best for me :). Did it help minimize your pores?

@Kathryn I have deep skin and my hyper pigmentation is quite annoying but it's not the absolute worst lol, And I don't really have active acne anymore other than those once a month small breakouts that usually go away. It's usually always on my chin or jaw. My chin and my lower cheeks are where I have the hyper pigmentation. Since my skin is melinated lol, I kind of want to stay away from lasers as a whole because of the higher risks of damage. I haven't tried hydroquinone though I am so scared lol I've heard some horror stories :O. I pray your laser treatments work out wonderfully gorgeous! Have you tried TCA peeling?

No I sure haven't, I'll have to look into that! I'm actually considering microneedeling instead of the laser, it's just so much more expensive and requires several rounds. But at this point I would do just about anything to finally get rid of this "mustache", aka hyper pigmentation on my upper lip. I always feel like I have to tell people it's not a mustache. I HATE it.

I've been using the Alba Botanica mini peel for an old mark on my face from a spider bite, and I'm gradually seeing improvements. It also makes my pores look great.

@Kathyrn I've been thinking about micro needling but then I wonder if it's actually worth it. As you said, it takes several rounds to see results and skin care is also super important with that. People generally combine a number of things with micro needling for best results product wise. I'm just not sure if I'm up for that commitment (if I did it at home with the roller) lol I have to set alarms just to remember to take my vitamins in the AM 😩

I had success with paulas choice products - you can see my progress on my profile here - I have oily/combo sensitive acne prone skin and I used her 2% BHA exfoliant gel with her vitamin c serum in the orange bottle (c15 booster) and within 2 months my acne scars were noticeably faded and now they are barely noticeable even without makeup - I do still get acne though as mine is similar to yours - cystic hormonal acne that gets bad about once a month - so any new acne I still have to treat and if it scars then I just use the same paulas choice products - her website is very informative and gives lots of information and what products would work best for different skin types so I highly recommend her stuff and doing some research on her website as well.
