Hi all!

So, I recently ordered the Natasha Denona 28 eye shadow palette in the shade Purple/Blue, and since it just got here yesterday I figured I’d use it for today’s look and review it a little for you guys!

I ended up using six of the shades: 23P Smoky Plum, 22M Maroon, 82V Nina’s Orchid, 60M Golden Rose, 92M Petroleum Blue, 04M Chromatic.

First of all, holy bejeezus, the shades marked “M” for metallic seriously mean it. They are so shiny and intense you can see them from space.

I started off using Golden Rose all over my lid, thinking that it would be a good dupe for Urban Decay’s “Flame” from the Vice 4 palette. Unfortunately, that was not the case, and it turned out to be more of a sheer, warm wash of color as opposed to a color that looks similar to a shimmery fire on your eyelids. It’s not a bad color, simply not what I expected. After that, I placed Petroleum Blue on the rest of my lid to give it some more visual interest, since my plan to base the whole look on Golden Rose did not turn out as intended. I really like Petroleum Blue, it’s probably a beautiful teal when used on its own, instead of layered over Golden Rose, though the effect of the two together is pretty as well. Following that, I decided to put Smoky Plum in my crease, a la Tarababyz, since her traditional style of shadow application has been inspiring me lately. I applied that, and adored the color. It’s fairly satin/matte for being considered part of her “metallic” line, but I loooved the way it turned out in the crease. Unfortunately, it couldn’t blend with the excessively shiny shades I used on my lid, so I used Maroon to blend the two together, since Maroon had the same shiny, silicone feel to it that my two lid shades had. Maroon is like a slightly shinier version of the same color, so I think it worked well. It also deepened my crease a bit, which turned out to be a nice look. Following that, I used Nina’s Orchid to blend out Smoky Plum, and it worked super well! Nina’s Orchid is actually a matte shade, one of only 13 in her entire line of 66 shadows, and it not only brightened up my crease and gave some more visual interest, but it seriously blended out like a dream, especially in comparison to the metallic shades which kind of refused to blend.

All in all, this is a nice palette. The shadows are smooth and pigmented nicely (except for Golden Rose which was not what I thought it would be), and having 28 shades all together is pretty great, since they’re all designed to work well together, you have a whole lot of options for color placement and usage.

A few things I do not like about the palette:
-The packaging feels cheap, it is just white patent material with her name and numbers stamped on it.
-There are no matte crease or highlight shades. While I’m one of the few people that I know who doesn’t mind looking like a neon sparkle fairy, I don’t necessarily want to go full on shimmer from lash line to brow bone every single day. I shouldn’t have to grab a different palette, or even a single, for a matte shade if I have a palette right in front of me that has 28 shades. I just feel like it’s missing that, though it is really beautiful.
-It costs $239. Let me break that down for you:

Her single shadows cost anywhere from $25-$29. Assuming that the palette is mostly the $25 shades, a total cost could be $700. From there, a discount to $239 could be really great, no? It’s almost a 70% discount if you were to buy all of the shades individually. In comparison, Urban Decay’s shadows are $19, and if you were to multiply that by 20 (the maximum number of shades in their palettes), the total cost could be $380. A discount from there to $56 is an 85% decrease in price from buying each shade individually. A comparative price for Natasha Denona would be $105, which, while still expensive, would be slightly more reasonable.

I am by no means saying this is a bad palette, nor am I telling you not to buy it. I’m going to use the heck out of it! In fact, I think the quality is pretty dang good. It’s smooth and easy to apply, you barely need to tap your brush into the shades to pick up the product, the shades are all beautiful, and there was practically no fallout at all. But, it may not be a perfect choice for someone with more financial responsibilities than I have.

So, in conclusion, if you have the means, this palette is lovely and if you think you would use it, I’d recommend it. If you don’t have the means, don’t feel like you’re really missing out, there are definitely comparable shadows for a lower price point if you wish to look for them.

Here's a photo from a different angle. You can see the shade 04M Chromatic along my lower lash line here =)

These colors are right up your alley! I do want one of her palettes, but don't feel the need to have it right now. I'm in law school, so I've got too many expenses going on at the moment. I am thinking of picking up 1 or 2 single shades just to try the product out. I've heard too many good things about the formula of her shadows to completely pass them up.
I love what you came up with and the lip color is gorgeous on you :)

Unfortunately for you, law books cost about as much as this palette, lol! The shadows really are nice, though, so I actually think the most bang for your buck would be a 5 pan palette since it's 5 shades for less than the price of two :)

Thanks so much! The lip color is actually Lime Crime's velvetine in Saint, I love it!

Haha that they do! I have been looking at the 5 pan palettes, but they're all so pretty. Just need to make a decision :)

Love the look :) I have no spare income right now so I definitely won't be picking them up in the next while. But I would love to try them. I don't know how to justify it in my head though Haha. For some reason 100$+ is fine for a palette but 239$ (especially with the low Canadian dollar which would almost double it..) is crazy to me.

How does it compare to like urban Decay in terms of performance? I know you have lots of ud palettes :)

Michelle whichever decision you make, I think you'll like it!

Alyx, I definitely don't blame you about the price point, $239 is nuts. Honestly I have trouble wrapping my mind around paying more than $80 (the price of Tom Ford quads). In comparison to Urban Decay...I'd say they're maybe even. These are a different formula, they feel like they have a bit more silicone in them so they're really smooth, but the different finishes don't blend together as well as UD shadows do, I feel. Urban Decay gets a lot of flack for creating glitter bombs, but these are just shine bombs, almost mirror-like. So they're kind of a different beast. However, I think they're pretty nice! They won't be replacing my UD anytime soon, but they're good.

I got one of the small palettes on my lucky bag the ones with 5 shades and did not like it at all the packaging felt so cheap it felt like something out of the elf line and the shadows where no good, I swatched them and they balled up like crazy it was horrible and there was so much fall out the pigmentation was nice and the color shades to but other then that there's nothing else I liked quality was just bad in my opinion, I'm glad you liked them that lipstick color is stunning by the way lol.

Aww thanks Rozberry :)

Wow Lili I'm so sorry to hear that! I agree, the packaging could be better, but the quality of my shadows has been fine so far.

I love the look you created!!
good review. I feel like the ones I see on instagram or online are biased because they get them sent to them for free. I can't believe that the packaging is cheap though, for that price I expect the best!
enjoy your product!!

Hear, hear, Lara! Thanks so much :) I agree, all the Youtube ones (well, to be fair most Youtube reviews in general) seem really disingenuous and like they're trying to upsell the products instead of trying to give honest reviews. Though I did really enjoy Tarababyz's review of both palettes :)

Don't get me wrong the pigment is great but the texture is horrible

Mar 3, 2016

Huh, I don't mind the texture, oddly enough. What primer did you use? And what kind of lids do you have? I'm wondering if my lids are just a weirdly specific combination of things that work.

I got one of the 5-shade palettes in my Lucky Bag, but I haven't experimented with it yet! I can't wait to play :) I'm glad you like them anyways, thanks for such a detailed review! I adore those colors on you its stunning.

It's funny you say that, Jackie, I plan on using this palette with my Viseart palettes since all of my Viseart palettes are matte. I feel like they'll compliment each other well! Hmmm. The comparison to Colourpop is interesting, I hadn't considered that but yeah, they feel very silicone-heavy and smooth. I get it! I'll be enjoying this for sure, it'd be a waste not to :)

Thanks Jamie! Anytime, I love reviewing products. I hope you like your palette :)
