I'd love to suggest fire-engine red but it's a b***h to remove if you use permanent dye.
I'd suggest you go down the veggie dye route and make a beautiful gradient, since your roots are dark you can start at the top with a deep blue, then transition into a beautiful purple...
This is obviously professionally done (by super talented Guy Tang), but it's a good starting point for an idea!
