Ghd I've had mine since 2009 and got long thick hair. They really do straighten my wavy hair. Don't forget to use heat protectant.

Personally, I can't get by without my flat iron from Croc. It's one of the few out there that has titanium plates, so it gets my hair really straight and silky. Even with my super thick, curly hair, it only takes me a maximum of an hour to do my whole head. They're also really not very expensive, as far as flat irons go, which is nice. I really recommend them.
