Hi, I'm Gen from Ohio. As of late, I have not been wearing foundation, or any other kind of make-up to speak of other than SuperGoop CC cream. I am very make-up inept and l looking for advice. I have heard that I need a primer and good foundation. I have normal skin with slight oiliness in my T-zone. Going to a place like Sephora without a game plan in mind is very intimidating. I've heard good things about a Kat VonD foundation. Any tips on starting out with primer and foundation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Kat Von D is quite thick in my opinion and overly matte. I personally love LORAC Mattifying porefection primer (only applied to the tzone ;) ) & Urban Decay Naked Skin foundation. it's a lovely everyday foundation. extremely light weight, beautiful skin-like finish, medium coverage. I have similar skin to yours.

Hello Gen,certainly a primer makes a good difference with oily, very dry skin or skin with large pores, but in my opinion if you have normal skin is not a necessity to use a primer but,it depends on each individual.
You could try the mineral veil primer from hour glass which is light weight and feels so soft,it is pricey but you could try the sample size.

As for foundation, Like R T suggested I really recommend trying samples of different foundations, A few good options to try are, ultra hd Mufe foundation, naked skin from urban decay, Dior star foundation , Dior forever and Mark Jacobs remarkable foundation.
If you need a lot of coverage, probably you will like the Kat Von D but it is very heavy in my opinion.

The remarkable foundation from MJ is also a very high coverage one but it is lighter on the skin and is not as matte as the Kat Von D.

Hi Genevieve! If you're looking into Kat Von D, I'm assuming you're okay going to Sephora? If you are, then absolutely go and let them know what kind of foundation you want(full coverage, light coverage, satin, matte, dewey finish) and ask for samples!! DO NOT LEAVE THE STORE WITH A FULL SIZE FOUNDATION!! Lol! You're going to want to experiment to see what looks best on you. What shades matches you the best and what feels best on your skin. From there you can narrow down to something you'll really like!

Another thing, samples are so important because you want to make sure your skin reacts to it well, but also, the lights in Sephora are not always true to life, so you want to wear it outside, normal light, fluorescent light, ect to make sure you get a good color match, but the ladies at Sephora are super nice and no need to feel intimidated!!

Know what sort of finish and coverage you'd like before you go in - it's definitely overwhelming. As a starter, I'd try either IT's Your Skin But Better CC cream since it's easy to work with, no primer needed and gives medium to full coverage for a CC cream. Another nice foundation I've recommended for friends who were starting out with foundation as well is Make Up Forever's Face & Body, but it's light coverage. Good luck!

The Kat Von D foundation is nice, I used it for awhile but I've gone back to my first foundation love, Estée Lauder Double Wear. It's medium to full coverage, long wearing, lightweight, and transfer resistant, I highly recommend it. For primer I absolutely love the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, it has SPF and I find it really helps keep my makeup in place and looking gorgeous all day, even in my oily areas (:
