Liquid highlighter problem

I'm having an issue. Whenever I apply liquid highlighter, it somehow removes the foundation that's on underneath it.. It leaves me with big blotches of no foundation!! Does this happen to anyone else? Is it how I'm applying it? I've tried SEVERAL highlighters and it happens with all of them... I apply my liquid highlight with my fingers and then use my beauty blender to blend it out.. I tap it very gently.. Is there any way around this?? If I apply my highlight under my foundation, it doesn't even show up.

What foundation do you use? Primer? It could be more to do with your foundation than your highlighter

Ok so I know this is going against the "rules", but maybe try using setting powder first, then lightly dab the liquid highlighter in very small amounts, making sure just to dab so you don't disturb anything underneath. It's not true that you can't apply liquid or cream on top of powder, you just have to know what you're doing. Or you could use a cream highlighter and overdo it just a bit, then put setting powder over that. Or just use cream highlighter in the first place. Cream and powder are my favorite to use on certain areas of my face, my liquid highlighters I mix into my foundation. Let us know how it goes!

I would just apply the highlighter and skin blending with the fingers and just go straight for blending with the bb.. the pressure from your fingers is probably what is wiping off product.

I use Estée Lauder DW. Which is pretty hard to remove so I'm a little confused as to why it's coming off hah! I will try putting my setting powder on first as well as skipping using my fingers!! Thank you (:

I have the same issue with liquid highlighters and I use double wear also. Never have issues with it coming off except when I use a liquid highlighter so I'm curious also.

Use a cream highlighter and set it with a powder highlighter.

Try just using your finger (not a Beauty Blender) to tap, gently, the highlighter on. Blend just with a light tapping motion.

Light taps onto the skin works with a BB or a flat paddle brush. Liquid highlighters are sheer and can be applied on top lightly with tapping or even mixed into your foundation before you apply it to that area. You'll get a radiance finish not a intense highlight like powder. :)
Which liquid highlighter are you using?

When I used the High Beam from benefit I never had that issue.

I didn't use a beauty blender with it though, I find that a beauty blender would just soak up the liquid due to how porous the sponge is.
I would just sort of... Tap (lightly with my fingers) the edges where I put it and I'd get better intensity and no smudges or anything but I think I did actually set my face prior to putting on the highlighter so that's probably why it didn't effect my foundation.

I wait until my foundation sets all by itself, then blot with a tissue then I lightly dab on some of the Mally Face Defender. It's a thin, clear solid gel like product that will set your foundation without powder. Then I apply the highlighter. I find that the highlighter is not as intense unless I layer on a little more than I would normally would. But because of the Mally barrier, the highlighter does not disturb the foundation.

It might have to do with the composition of the products. I used to have that problem, so I started checking how well the two products mix together on my palm (that should give you an idea of how they are going to blend). I was having the same problem with the Nars illuminators until I switched to Nars foundations. Also I've noticed that the Kevyn Aucoin celestial liquid highlighter gives me the least compatibility issues with most foundations!
Also, if they do mix well together, maybe try to mix the highlighter with the tiniest bit of foundation before applying it? It might help integrating both products. True, the highlighting won't be as intense (which is fine if you are going after that dewey skin look, I personally prefer how it looks this way), but you can always go over it with powder highlighter if you are going for that GLOW ;)
I find that, even as a makeup artist, there's a lot of trial and error with these things. I just hope that after some years of experimenting I become half as knowledgable as Jaqueline!
Let us know what works best for you!! :)
