Now that I'm trying to invest in quality make up brushes, I'd like to know more on these makers. Has anyone tried both? How did they compare? Which do you prefer?

You should definitely ask Jacqueline H. this! I think she responded to your thread about whether or not the Sakura Collection will be brought back, if you wanted to message her on her profile. She'll probably check out this thread anyways though. She's our resident brush expert!
As for me, I've tried a few brushes from both brands, and I don't think you can go wrong with either.
Hakuhodo has a wider variety of prices as well as a larger collection of brushes. If you're just getting into higher end brushes, I will tell you what Jacqueline told me, which is that Hakuhodo is an excellent place to start.
Japanese hand crafted brushes require more care than other brushes. If you don't take care of them, they will get ruined. Their natural bristles are more delicate than synthetic, and some types of natural bristle are more delicate than others. Although both companies use a variety of bristle types, since Hakuhodo has a significantly larger collection, it's a lot easier to find better starter brushes within their line.
It would be awful to start with a more expensive, more delicate Chikuhodo brush, and then not be able to care for it properly. Japanese brushes are a whole new world, and I would recommend starting in the shallow end.
Hakuhodo has a website you can order from, hakuhodousa.com. I would advise you to read what they say about different bristle types on there. I know their collection can be overwhelming, and my advice is to get out a ruler when looking at brushes. The site gives you the length of the bristles, so having the ruler helps you gauge the size accurately.
As for Chikuhodo, they're Passion Series set is definitely where to start with their collection! I reach for my Hakuhodo and Chikuhodo brushes equally, but I use brushes from this set every time I do my makeup. It's absolutely fabulous. :)
I hope this sort of helps and wasn't as big of a rambling mess I think it was lol!
