Over the past couple of days, New York has been sunny and 70 (crazy, I know) and I've required quite a bit of a tan, and I'm headed to the beach for the upcoming week so will probably get a bit darker.. I will obviously need to change my foundation color because I will look a bit silly with a white face and some nice summery skin! I'm just not sure how much darker I should go.. Is there any tricks behind this??

Why don't you try something like the Cover FX custom cover drops? Or something else that could adjust your current foundation shade with?

I've heard the body shop has foundation adjusters that work great. I need to get some myself!

You can also try a bronzer to help with the adjusting to your new tan.

Thanks everyone, as I'm leaving tomorrow morning I don't really have time to get my hands on the Cover FX drops, I was going to run to the drugstore to pick up a foundation I could use basically just for the week of my vacation

I would honestly suggest just grabbing the L'orèal true match super Blendable foundation.
Consider how tan you're able to get.
And consider what undertone you tan cause some people end up turning a little more red or a little more neutral.
If you're unsure then go with your normal undertone. They have the cool, neutral and warm range.

Honestly, if you're going to mix it with your regular foundation then I'd get a shade that's about 3-5 shades darker. This is what works for me. It may seem drastic but I personally was never the type to go up or down only one shade.
My summer shade and winter shade are quite different. NC30 winter and NC43-NC44 Summer sometimes.

Even if the shade is too dark then you really only need a small amount to add to your existing foundation.

I used to use their lightest and darkest shade at the time
W1 and W8 and would mix the two to get my match. This was in school when my friends would sometimes use mine. One friend was a couple of shades lighter and the other was a couple of shades darker and it worked.

I wouldn't really suggest a bronzer just because when I did I'd either be orange, red or too brown the undertone was always off for me but they could work for you if you tan in that undertone range.

Nyx has a foundation mixer in which you can make your foundation darker. havent tried it myself but it saves you money from buying more and more foundations.

I agree with a bronzer and I use one regularly in the summer - it doesn't look orange if you don't use too much - just a light dusting in areas where the sun naturally hits you - they also come in matte and shimmery shades with various lightness/darkness - I find they provide a great sun kissed look to any foundation color - but I have olive skin with neutral undertones and it's hard to find a perfect match in foundation shades so I often use bronzer if it's ever too light for me - but the nice thing about bronzer is it's cheap and easy to layer to go darker or not as dark as you apply it
