Start with a base coat, wait for it to dry then put your desired color (s) nail polish, wait for it to dry between each layer and finish with a top coat

If you want to reshape your nails, use an emery board in ONE direction on the tip of your nail. DO NOT file back and forth, it makes your nails prone to tearing. And never file on the nail, if you want to smooth out ridges use a buffer. Filing the top of the nail makes them thin and prone to breaking. I recommend softly pushing your cuticles back, followed by cuticle or or lotion. Leave it on 15-20 minutes and then use a cotton ball with nail polish remover (I recommend one without acetone) and wipe the nails clean. Then apply a coat of a base polish, followed by 2-3 thin coats of the color. Once they are completely dry, apply your top coat. I recommend sealing the tips of your nails with top coat as well. By this I mean run the top coat over the tips of your nails preventing chips and shrinkage!

You can buy a 4 step filing block that helps remove ridges on your nails. This helps with making sure the nail is smooth so the nail polish looks nicer:)
